The Evangelical Presbyterian Church in South Africa
East Rand Parish – Daveyton Branch
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of a legend of faith, Mr. Tomas “Papai” Mazwaya, who departed peacefully on the evening of 23rd September 2025, a day before our nation marked Heritage Day.
Mr. Mazwaya, affectionately known as Papai, was a devoted servant of the Lord and a pillar of the church. As a faithful member of the Men’s Guild (Madodana), he dedicated his life to the growth, unity, and upliftment of both the Daveyton Branch and the East Rand Parish.
His passing comes during a historic season when our denomination celebrates 150 years since its inception in 1875 in Valdezia, Limpopo—a milestone he was deeply proud to witness.
We will remember Papai for his wisdom, unwavering presence, and enduring faith. His legacy is one of service, humility, and steadfast love for God’s people. Though he has gone to be with the Lord, we, the church, remain committed to picking up the baton and continuing the journey of faith he so dearly cherished.
To the Mazwaya family, we extend our heartfelt condolences. May the Lord grant you strength and comfort, for “the Lord is close to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:18).
Rest in eternal peace, Papai, until we meet again when the rapture comes.
One Way, One Heart.
