*RCCG TEENS TEACHER'S MANUAL*
*LESSON TWENTY -THREE (23)*
*SUNDAY 2ND OF FEBRUARY, 2020*
*TOPIC: SIN CAUSES DARKNESS*

*SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN*
1. O Sunday School, on the Lord's day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth.

2. O Sunday School, on the Lord's day,
Thy friend friendship suits me well,
Both young and old will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School.

3. O Sunday School, on the Lord's day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee.

4. O Sunday School, on the Lord's day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee.

5. O Sunday School, on the Lord's day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds be black with rain,
I'll be in Sunday School.

6. O Sunday School, on the Lord's day,
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?

*BIBLE TEXT*: Judges 16:18-21
18.And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.
19.And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.
20.And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.
21But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.

*1 Samuel 31:1-6*
1.Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
2.And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Melchishua, Saul's sons.
3.And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.
4.Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
5.And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.
6.So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.

*MEMORY VERSE*: Ezekiel 18:20 "The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him".

LESSON AIM: To let the teens aware that sin causes darkness and darkness causes evil.

*CENTRAL TRUTH: Sin is the most cause of human problems.

*INTRODUCTION*: In lesson 18, we gave a very simple definition of sin as when you good and you do not do it, it is sin. James 4:17. In this study we want to look at what sin can cause in the life of a child of God.

*STUDY GUIDE*:
*A*. *The summary of what sin causes is Darkness*:
D -- Death. Rom.6:23, James 1:15
A -- Anguish of the heart. Psalm 32:3-4
R -- Robs us of joy. 1/) John 1:4
K -- Kills the peace of God in us.
N -- Not confident to pray. Isaiah 59:2
E -- Eternal separation from God. Revelation 21:8
S -- Sickness. John 10:10.
S -- Spiritual truth will not be understood.

*B*. Teenagers to look at the story in Judges 16:18-21 and highlight the activities of Samson that led to his death:
1. ................................................................
2. ................................................................
3. ................................................................
4. ................................................................
5. ................................................................

DISCUSSION: Discuss the various ways darkness can come upon someone in sin.

*INVITATION/APPLICATION:* Are you living in darkness? You need to run away fast from sin and the camp of Satan. Then submit yourself to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

*CONCLUSION*: Proverbs 6:27 says "Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?". We cannot afford to toy with sin as children of God. Anyone that indulges in acts of sin should expect darkness to cover his life. This is because God cannot reckon with sin. He cannot behold sin.

MEMORY VERSE: "And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto hi, and did as the LORD commanded Moses." -- Deuteronomy 34:9

BIBLE PASSAGE: JOSHUA 1:1-9

Joshua:1.1
After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, it came to pass that the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' assistant, saying:
Joshua:1.2
"Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them -- the children of Israel.
Joshua:1.3
"Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.
Joshua:1.4
"From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory.
Joshua:1.5
"No man shall [be able to] stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, [so] I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.
Joshua:1.6
"Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.
Joshua:1.7
"Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.
Joshua:1.8
"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Joshua:1.9
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God [is] with you wherever you go."

INTRODUCTION
Joshua the son of Nun (Jo's. 1:1) can be described as the military aide of Moses (Exodus 17:8-9). He was ordained and appointed to succeed Moses. God and Moses ordained him (Numbers 27:18-23). He made his first appearance in Exodus 17:8-16. He is of the tribe of Ephraim and his original name was 'Hoshea' meaning 'Salvation' ( Deuteronomy 32:44) which is also spelt 'Oshea' (Numbers 13:8). Moses renamed him Joshua meaning 'Jehovah saves' (Numbers 13:16). Alternative spelling of his name are 'Jehoshua' (Numbers 13:16). 'Jehoshuah' (1Chron. 7:27) and ' Jeshua' (Nehemiah 8:17). He died at the age of one hundred and ten (Joshua 24:29).

OUTLINES OUTLINES
1. CHARACTER AND ACHIEVEMENTS
2. LESSONS FROM JOSHUA'S LIFE

CHARACTER AND ACHIEVEMENTS

The character of Joshua was quite explicit in the following ways:

i. Joshua was full of the spirit of wisdom (Deuteronomy 34:9).

ii. He was a warrior who led Israel to battle from the time of Moses (Exodus 17:9-15).

iii. He was optimistic together with Caleb ( Numbers 14:6).

iv. A faithful follower of Moses ( Exodus 33:8-11).

v. He accompanied Moses to Mount Sinai and waited for him at the bottom of the mountain while Moses climbed the mountain to receive from God the Ten Commandments (Exodus 24:13-14; Ex. 32:15-19).

vi. He was humble enough to understudy Moses.

vii. Joshua was committed to serving God and also made his family to serve God (Jo's. 24:15).

viii. He had a strong faith in God even in the battle such that he altered the course of nature ( Joshua 10:12-14).

ix. His farewell message condemned idolatry as he wanted Israel to serve God (Joshua 23 and 24).

x. He took counsel from God before doing anything except in the case of the Gibeonite (Joshua 5:13+14) and the people of 'Ai' (Joshua 7:3) where he allowed people to influence his decisions.

B. Joshua's achievements are also note worthy

i. Joshua succeeded Moses (Joshua 1:1-2,5).

ii. Joshua parted river Jordan ( Joshua 3:13-17).

iii. He took Israel to the Promised Land and divided the conquered cities among the tribes of Israel as God mandated him (Jo's. 1:6).

iv. Joshua led the miraculous and historical conquest of Jericho (Joshua 6).

v. He was able to charge the Israelites not to deviate from serving God; a legacy that lasted after his death (Joshua 24:14-16; 20:24).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1
Considering the meaning of the name of Joshua, what similarities can we draw between him and Jesus?

LESSONS FROM JOSHUA'S LIFE

A. Believers should hold on to God's counsel and remain strong to the end ( Jo's. 1:6-7; Eph. 6:10-11).

B. We should learn to be obedient and follow through with detailed divine instructions ( Joshua 3; 6:1-21; 1Samuel 15:22; 2Corinthians 10:6).

C. We should be bold in the face of challenges ( Joshua 5:13-14; Joshua 10:12-14; 2Timothy 1:7).

D. Like Joshua believers must shun unfaithfulness ( Joshua 7:19-26; 1Corinthians 4:2).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2
Why do you think God choose Josh to replaced Moses?

SUMMARY
The character of a leader determines how much he succeed

CONCLUSION
Believers who remain obedient to divine instructions will enjoy divine help always.

CLOSING PRAYER
Father, give us good leaders in the Church and the society

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: SATURDAY 1ST FEBRUARY 2020.

THEME: THE BLOOD OF JESUS I.

MEMORISE:

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all[a] sin. 1 John 1:7

READ: Hebrews 9:11-14

11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;

12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:

14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

MESSAGE

The Blood of Jesus is the most powerful substance I know. I know how powerful it is because I have used it countless times and it has worked for me. The most important thing that the Blood of Jesus can do is wash away sins. Every sinner carries a burden of guilt. However, the moment the fellow surrenders his/her life to Christ, the Blood of Jesus washes away his/her sins. From that moment, the fellow is completely pure and none of his sins exists anymore. Isn’t that wonderful? If you are still carrying the burden of sin, I advise that you ask Him to cleanse you with His Blood today and you will experience great peace like never before.

Aside from washing away sins, the Blood of Jesus is also a potent weapon to overcome Satan. Revelation 12:11 says:

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony...”

Is Satan tormenting you in any area of your life? Just plead the Blood of Jesus on it and you will overcome him.

The greatest covenant anyone can enter into is a blood covenant. If it so happens that your forefathers have entered into a covenant with the devil and you noticed certain trends in your linage, the Blood of Jesus is the only thing that can break it. A long time ago in my family, one of our fathers impregnated his maid and his wife at the same time. While the wife was well-cared for after delivery, the maid, because of her status, was given food without oil-very dry and unappetizing, despite having delivered a son. The maid, hurt, placed a curse on the family and from that moment on, any child born and given anything with oil to eat died. The family found out and oil became forbidden for children in the home. Then I met Christ and His Blood overcame the ancestral curse in my family.

The Blood of Jesus is powerful enough to overcome Satan and all his demons.

PRAYER POINT:

I plead the Blood of Jesus on my linage and I use it to break every curse or evil covenant that exists in my family in the mighty Name of Jesus.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Exodus 7-9

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMN 8: HAVE YOU BEEN TO JESUS.

1. Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing pow’r?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

o Refrain:
Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul-cleansing blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless? Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

2. Are you walking daily by the Savior’s side?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Do you rest each moment in the Crucified?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

3. When the Bridegroom cometh will your robes be white?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Will your soul be ready for the mansions bright,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb?

4. Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb;
There’s a fountain flowing for the soul unclean,
Oh, be washed in the blood of the Lamb!
