Jesus Christ, the Messiah - Elder Gaffar Hassam
In Matthew 26:62–64,
Jesus is asked directly whether He is the Christ, the Son of God. He answers and speaks of the Son of Man seated at God’s right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven.
The sermon followed that declaration through Scripture, showing how God’s promise of a Messiah runs from the Old Testament to the final victory still to come.
The promise begins in Genesis 3:15, where God speaks of the woman’s Seed who would defeat evil. God repeats the promise through Abraham: through him, all the families of the earth would be blessed. Matthew’s genealogy traces the generations from generations.
David spoke of the Messiah reigning at God’s right hand.
Isaiah foretold Immanuel, and a Branch from Jesse.
Micah named Bethlehem as the place from which the ruler would come.
Peter later recognised Jesus as that promised Messiah: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
The sermon closed by looking ahead. Daniel saw the Son of Man receiving an everlasting kingdom.
Jesus’ words in Matthew 26 affirm that His reign and return are certain.
