- In this teaching, Ps. Emmanuel Frimpong Sakyi discusses the spiritual responsibilities of Christian parents. He emphasizes that many Christian parents are failing to adequately train and equip their children in the ways of God, leading to negative consequences in society and the church.
Here's a breakdown of the key points:
📌Spiritual Responsibility Over Physical: Parents have a spiritual duty to raise their children in the Lord, which is even more important than physical responsibilities. It's their higher spiritual responsibility to train, develop, and equip their children in the Lord, which supersedes physical duties. Neglecting this duty can lead to children being influenced by worldly or even satanic forces.
📌Children are a Gift from God: Children are not truly "owned" by parents but are gifts from God, for which parents will be held accountable. Children are a gift from God, and parents are stewards of this gift. They do not own their children's souls and will be held accountable by God for how they raise them. God expects parents to raise godly offspring who will extend His name and glory.
📌Consequences of Negligence: The failure of parents to fulfill their spiritual duties contributes to the rise of evil and wickedness in society and weakens the church. Failing to train children spiritually can lead to sorrow and pain for parents in their old age.
📌Rejecting Worldly Wisdom: Parents should not adopt the world's wisdom in raising children, as this leads to destruction and pain. Instead, they should cultivate godliness in their children. It's important to exercise spiritual authority over children to ensure they are raised in God's way.
📌Practical Steps for Parents: Parents are urged to engage their children in spiritual activities, such as morning devotions, church attendance and Bible reading, and to lead by example. Parents must be spiritually strong themselves to guide their children. They must be spiritual themselves to effectively lead their children.
📌Accountability for Gifts: God expects accountability for every gift he gives, including children. The purpose of marriage, as stated in Malachi 2:15, is to produce godly offspring who will extend God's name and glory across the earth.
