Notices :
• Father Jan will livestream Mass each day at 09:00, except for Mondays, which is his day off. Father also continues to celebrate the stipend Masses.
• Sadly, Father Jan will leave the parish in the first week of August to take up a new appointment for his Congregation. We will miss his caring manner and thank him for his service to us. As we will not be able to host a farewell function, we propose that we have a “Drive By” event. Father will be outside All Saints on Saturday , 1st August between 10:00 and 11:00 and outside St. Kevin’s between 12:00 and 13:00 if you wish to drive by, wave, hoot or to leave a gift.
• The Archbishop has appointed Father Sean Collins CSsR as the new parish administrator, assisted by Father Paschal Nwankwo CSsR to serve in our parish. They will take up their appointment in the first week of August.
• The Southern Cross is free to read online although now in a reduced format. This Catholic newspaper is yet another casualty of the pandemic and has been forced to retrench their staff. They will, however, continue with an online and social media presence. Please go to scross.co.za and subscribe and support your Catholic newspaper.
• The Catholic Bookshop now has an online shop. Please visit them at catholicbookshop.co.za for easy online shopping.
• Fundraising news : After some deliberation it has been decided to cancel all fundraising events for 2020. If you have bought a booklet of tickets for the Food Fair (scheduled for March 2020) and wish to have the cost refunded, please contact Rina by the end of August.
• Arising out of a meeting between the W C Government and Faith Based Organisations, please note the following :
o It is not illegal to have the body in the church during funerals; it is up to the undertaker. Whereas in the recent past it was mandatory for the undertaker to take the body into the place of worship now it is not.
o To show solidarity with all who have lost lives or loved ones during the pandemic, it was decided to observe an act of sympathy on Wednesdays at 12:00. It could be a moment of prayerful silence, lighting a candle or praying the Angelus.
o To promote sustainability in low income households parishioners are advised that the Department of Labour is offering free seeds for home gardens. Also, please go to the W C Government webpage for more details on their “One Home One Garden Project”
Finance :
We thank parishioners who have so generously continued with their Planned Giving and Sunday collection and deposited cash or made use of EFT’s . We appreciate your financial support.
Our thanks also to those who prefer to give anonymously.
