"For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD" (LEVITICUS 16:30).

Sin is man's greatest challenge on earth. It separates man from God. Sin enslaves and no one can on his own free himself from it. The more man attempts to pull himself out of sin, the more he sinks into the abyss of helplessness. To be free from sin, therefore, would require the intervention of superior power; the One who created man, who alone knows how to disentangle him from the tyranny of evil and wickedness.

God took the initiative with the children of Israel when he appointed Aaron to be the high priest. His job was essentially to make atonement for their sins. To do this, a day was set aside each year for him to enter into the most holy place in the temple, make animal sacrifices to cleanse his own sin and the sin of the people.

The animal sacrifices only covered sins for a short period but could not cleanse it indefinitely. So, every year, the entire nation stood still to allow the high priest repeat his ritual of atonement under very strict rules. Without doubt, this old system of atonement or covering sins, was grossly limited and did not provide a permanent solution to man's sin problem.

Whilst Aaron's animal sacrifices only succeeded in temporarily covering the sins of the people, Christ's sacrifice of Himself brought total cleansing from sin, once and for all. While Aaron made long preparations before appearing before God, we can now come boldly to His throne to obtain mercy and grace in time of need. Of course, now, we do not just prepare our bodies but our hearts as we approach God in prayer of faith through Christ.

As many as are willing can have their sins forgiven and their guilt removed as they confess and forsake their sins; accept Christ as Lord and Saviour, and place their trust in the spotless Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.

In Jesus is found the only route to God.

We are not to be isolated but insulated," said Vance Havner, "moving in the midst of evil but untouched by it." Jesus was holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners; yet, He was "a friend of tax collectors and sinners.
We are to be separate enough from immorality and ungodliness that it does not influence us. The Bible makes it clear that we should "come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord." But whilst we steer clear from the world's pollutions, we are expected to be close enough so that we can minister to those who are trapped in all forms of uncleanness.
The heaven-bound believer is only in the world, not of the world.

No treachery is worse than the betrayal by a family member or friend. Julius Caesar knew such treachery. Among the conspirators who assassinated him on March 15, 44 B.C., was Marcus Junius Brutus, a trusted friend whom Caesar had favoured as a son. According to Roman historians, Caesar first resisted the assassination, but when he saw Brutus among them with his dagger drawn, he asked the famous question "You too Brutus?", and then succumbed.
Jeremiah was put in prison by someone who was suppose to be a priest and a leader in the house of the Lord. Jeremiah was a priest himself before he received the call to the office of a prophet. His message, no doubt, offended many in his country who felt he was not patriotic enough in his denunciation of Israel. But those messages came from God to Jeremia
Pashur, wanting to dance to the gallery, arrested a fellow preacher of the gospel like himself and put him in an unhealthy dungeon. When Jeremiah was eventually brought out, he declared the deserved judgment of God upon him for his wickedness and treachery.
Sometimes, a preacher is cast in the unpopular role of preaching what people either do not want to hear or hate to accept. The best place such preachers hope to find solace is with God and his fellow preachers who should support and assist him. When such fellow ministers now become the instrument of betrayal and persecution, it is the worst kind of betrayal.
The lesson here is the need to prepare for anything. Your worst enemy could be your best friend, and your best friend, your worst enemy. When grief assumes such a deep dimension that no word of man can reach and console, the Holy Spirit is at hand to comfort and console.
The genuine preacher of the gospel is always the target of fierce oppositions.

But the first thing to do whenever things go wrong is to look inwards, pray and find out if our ways are right with God. "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or
grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.Have you not known? There is danger in delay or procrastination. Whatever God asks believers to do should be done faithfully and with prompt obedience. There is time for everything on earth. What you are to do today should not be delayed till tomorrow. No wonder Jesus said, "I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work". When running errands or rendering services for God, we should make haste to get it done as specified. Remember that people who procrastinate can never serve God satisfactorily. They will miss great opportunities in life which they could have seized!

Never let what you see, how you feel, or anything contrary to God’s Word run your life. Give thought, attention and focus only to the Word. You’re greater than any trouble in your body, or in the world. You’ve already overcome everything that tries to work against you. 1 John 4:4 says, “Ye are of God little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.” Hallelujah!

If you are yet to taste of the great benefit of redemption, you should do so now by turning to Jesus for pardon and cleansing from all sin. The beauty of it all is that Christ’s redemptive work is full, final and free. And you can appropriate it and enjoy it from this moment till death or the coming of our Lord to take us to heaven. Since everyone who asks receives, acknowledge your sinfulness and pray with faith in Christ who bore the punishment for your sins now. Ask for remission of sin by His blood and justification by grace, and you will receive.
