Anointed means to be made sacred (consecrated), to be set apart and dedicated to God, to be endowed with enabling gifts and grace, to be divinely designated, inaugurated or chose for some purpose. Myrrh is the first spice mentioned in the recipe. It is bitter to taste but sweet to smell. Myrrh parallels Jesus Christ's life in that He is our sweet smelling Saviour but He took on the bitterness of our sins. It was presented to Him at the beginning of His life by the wise men and also offered to Him as He hung from the cross. Myrrh was also applied to his body for burial. This oil is first harvested as a resin from the common myrrh (Commiphora myrrh) tree. The tree is pierced and drops of resin with a reddish hue "bleed" out. In this process myrrh is the identification process of His suffering and death. In the spiritual sense myrrh speaks of dying to self to become a "sweet smelling Saviour" to the Lord. Myrrh inspires peace and tranquility. It is the principle spice of togetherness and leads us to intimate worship. SWEET CINNAMON - Heb : kinamon, qinamon
The primary root of the word cinnamon means emitting an odor. Spiritually it speaks of holiness and set apartness. Cinnamon acts as a yoke destroyer. Christ was chosen to take on the yoke of our bo***ge (sin). By doing so, He interceded on our behalves for us to receive of Him. SWEET CALAMUS - Heb : kaneh
It is a stalk or aromatic reed. It is translated as "right" or "upright". It is a balancing and measuring rod in scripture. CASSIA - Heb : qiddah

Cassia has been considered an inferior plant to other species in the laurel family. Like the cassia, Jesus was considered by Jewish leaders to be of a lowly standing. The word "qiddah" may be interpreted as bowing down or paying homage. Spiritually cassia speaks of being stripped of arrogance and pride and walking in humility with a servant's heart and demeanour. In John 8:54 Jesus answered " If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me: of whom ye say, that he is our God:". This verse gives up the yard stick by which we as born again Christians are to live. OLIVE OIL
The olive tree in the Bible is probably the most recognised tree. It provided a source of food, lamp oil, anointing oil and building materials. In days of old, farmers who had abundant olive crops were considered "blessed". Anointing with olive oil is indicative of God given wealth and favour. EXODUS 30 : 26 - 31
"And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation therewith, and the ark of the Testimony,
And the table and all his vessels, and the candlestick and his vessels, and the altar of incense,
And the altar of burnt offering with all his vessels, and the laver and his foot. and thou shalt sanctify them, that they may be most holy: whatsoever toucheth them shall be holy. And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office. And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be a holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations." Under and through the new covenant, we are now considered temples of the most high God. The blood of Christ Jesus flows through our veins, our hearts house the Word of God and our spirit is guided, taught and led by the Holy Ghost. As such we are now living tabernacles following the ethos of Christ Jesus in honouring, glorifying and worshipping our Father in heaven.
