*Stop Saying “Next”*
We were walking through a beautiful botanical garden, set within a world heritage site, doing a guided meditation. One stop brought us to a magnificent waterfall, cascading into a deep, dark pool. We were invited to pause and simply watch the water for two minutes. As I reflected, a few thoughts came to mind: water keeps flowing and never runs dry, and God offers something deeper than temporary satisfaction. Then came the questions: what am I truly thirsty for right now? Where have I been going to feel filled? Do those things actually satisfy? As I stood there, taking in the beauty, a family arrived. Their young son ran ahead, reached the waterfall, and without even pausing to look, said, “What’s next?” It was striking. He had missed the moment entirely. And then it felt like a mirror of my own life. How often do I move from one task to the next, saying “what’s next,” while missing the presence of God all around me? We may say God feels distant, yet our days are filled with noise, hurry, and striving. God invites us differently: “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). Stillness allows us to see, to hear, to be filled. Perhaps our emptiness is not God’s absence, but our constant motion. (Nicky B) Open Bible -
