Let's pray and hope that the horrific killings and senseless violence in war-ravaged places like Israel / Palestine, Ukraine, DR Congo, Libya, Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, Myanmar and elsewhere become a thing of the past, never to return again.

Let this new year usher in universal justice and genuine fairness so that everyone is afforded deserved worldly benefits as well as uplifting spiritual blessings.

So, let us strive together and in unison to bring full and equal human rights for all. This will ultimately resolve the root causes of conflict and bloodshed so these convulsions can be consigned to the dustbin of history.

Let's redouble our efforts and re-dedicate ourselves at the start of this new year so that all those around us, including family, friends, neighbours and colleagues, will have a better, safer and a more just and equitable world.

*The Open Mosque* hosts monthly webinars bringing the three Abrahamic faiths together to share a common platform concerning hot button subjects that affect everyone. Last month, a groundbreaking virtual seminar dealt with the Abrahamic responses to racism, inequality and discrimination.

This month, the topic is the intersection between *the Abrahamic religions and the planetary pestilence*. How has Covid 19 impacted upon believers and what has been the result of this worldwide scourge on traditional rituals, collective worship, rites of passage, bereavement, funerals, etc within Judaism, Christianity and Islam?

This week, Dr Taj Hargey – the President of the Open Mosque and the Provost of the Oxford Institute for British Islam – addresses the international virtual Jumu'ah on THE HISTORY & HERITAGE OF THE HAJJ.

With the imminent onset of the annual pilgrimage to Makkah, this sermon traces the historical events and evolution of this key pillar of Islam. How and why did this ancient pre-Islamic custom become intrinsic to the monotheistic message of Muhammad? This khutbah highlights the authentic purposes and philosophy behind the hajj. This sermon will, as usual, combine topical aspects of scriptural theology with an incisive scrutiny of current and contemporary issues. After prayers, there will be a 20-minute Q & A session.
