(Source: Perceptions on Islam & Muslims, iERA Research, www.iera.org.uk )
The obligation of Dawah has been made clear in the Qur'an. Allah (swt) says in the
"Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good,
enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong:
they are the ones to attain felicity." (Al-Qur’an 3:104)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,"Convey from me, even (if it is) one verse." (Bukhari)
Dawah is one of the most noblest acts any Muslim can do and its rewards are immense. Allah (swt) says in the Qur'an,
"Who is better in speech than one who calls (men) to Allah, works righteousness,
and says, “I am of those who bow in Islam”?" (Al-Qur'an 41:33)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever guides (another) to a good deed will get a reward similar to the one who performs it." He (peace be upon him) also said, "By Allah, if Allah were to guide one man through you it would be better for you than the best type of camels." (Bukhari and Muslim)

Northern Nigeria Failure

It was no longer a new thing how northern were underdeveloped. I will like to address this based on the causative agent of individualism. All Nigerian regions were blessed with different people, the only difference is how northern Nigerian individuals were under-developed in their families and communities. The richest people, academicians, and politicians in northern Nigeria have contributed nothing to the region educationally, mentally, psychologically, and philosophically and the only 'ly' they have contributed is spiritually sadly it was brainwashed by the western and bombarded with misinformation about our religions in the region. Having grown up in a local environment and poor family, people will only see your poverty not your potential in the future. It is barely people as an individual in northern Nigeria to support their family members to achieve their goals. This individual failure has failed most families without education. Families' failure led to community failure, communities failure led to societal failure. Societal failure has failed the northern region. At least individuals have contributed 60 per cent to the collapse of the region and northern governors also contributed 40 per cent. If you failed to educate your people, your majority will avail you not. Northern Nigeria is falling start from your family before the community, when last did you ask about the education of your family members. I may recall when I was offered admission to Unimaid quite several people said the university is not for poor people. I stand firm and prove them wrong.
Northerners' mentality has degraded the region. Northern distinctive philanthropists failed to enlighten the poor masses so they can stand on their feet and be their bosses. This failure affect the youths that led to immigration from the northern region to the Western region of Nigeria, particularly people from Sokoto, Zamfara Kebbi and other northern states. I mentioned three states. I believe they have a large number of immigrants and there is a large number in Borno state due to the Boko Haram insurgency the governor is doing well there will be a drastically reduction in the next couple of years governors contribute 40 per cent to the failure. The above three state governors failed the most in their villages which led to the immigration of their people. Having stayed in Ibadan and Lagos for a couple of years and also been to Delta, Asaba among other states in Nigeria I learned northern governors are worse than the president in terms of under-developing the region. In conclusion, as a northern individual make sure you live your life like a Yoruba woman who sells pure water in Bodija market, Ibadan to sponsor her children's education you have this right, the government only failed us 40%. Several northern families still make it from grass to grace you will be one of them in the future. Denzel Washington says "ease is a greater threat to progress than hardship." So, keep moving don't follow the majority life is not by remote control you must stand and change things by yourself. It is my belief when northern individuals wake up and support their families and communities we may have a greater Nigeria and good governors in the region.

The prophets of Allah were attacked, injured and even killed.

Dawah never stopped then, it cannot stop today.

Our beloved Shaikh Usman ibn Farooq has been attacked by cowards in San Diego (USA), while he was calling people to Allah. He was stabbed and is now believed to be stable, alhamdulillah. Please pray for his quick recovery and overwhelm him by messages of support. We must value our scholars, duat and activists for all the hard work they do for Allah and this Ummah. They are our real heroes and princes, we must take care of our princes. We must support their work in all possible legal ways. Please let his attackers know that we love our scholars and will never abandon them. The best we can do is to support the work of the Shaikh. Every single drop of blood shed by our beloved Shaikh will be handsomely rewarded by Allah in this world and the hereafter.

May Allah make him stronger and healthier ameen.

How to have fun memorizing the Qur'an

Dr Ibraheem Dooba

We were taking a walk when my good friend (Auwal Salga) asked me how many verses of the Qur'an I was memorizing daily.

I told him one ayah (verse) a day.

"Ha! That's not much!" He said.

So I asked him how many he was memorizing. The answer was zero, zilch, nada.

(Although my friend meant well.)

Yes, I memorize only one ayah a day and I'm old enough to ignore those who want me to memorize more because it doesn't work, at least, it doesn't work for me.

You need a lot of discipline to do it, and I lack that kind of discipline.

I've tried a page a day before. It didn't work. I even tried three verses a day. It didn't work.

However, I enjoy one ayah a day. Sometimes, when a verse is too long, I break it up and tackle it in two days.

Some days, I don't even memorize at all. I just try to lock in the ones that I've memorized before.

Non-Muslims may not understand why I'm writing this or why anyone would take a book of 114 chapters and more than 6000 verses and try to memorize it.

But Qur'an memorization is a form of worship. As a Muslim, the more of it you memorize, the better.

So how do I enjoy memorizing one ayah a day?

1. I choose the chapters I enjoy listening to and which are not too long. That is, for my own motivation, I can finish it in a reasonable time, say one month. This means the chapter would be under 30 verses. Example, chapter 71 only has 28 verses with beautiful cadence when recited.
2. I ask my mobile app to recite the ayah of the day 100 times. It is better you listen to how the experts recite it. You can choose your favourite reciter, there are many who come with the app I use. Saad El Ghamidi is my favourite.
3. After listening, I repeat it to myself 100 times.
4. I use it throughout the day in my prayers and sometimes even in conversations.
5. You would also memorize it faster if you reflect on the meaning. The app comes with an English translation.

Want to try? Why don't you start today? No, not tomorrow.

In fact, I just finished a chapter and want to start a new one. Do you want us to do it together?

I'm starting Chapter 72 (Jinn). Also 28 verses.

The app I use is called Ayat. It's from a university in Saudi Arabia. Search your AppStore or PlayStore, it's free.

PS:

I wrote this a few years ago. I like to share it at the beginning of every Ramadan - because it is the month of the Qur'an. May Allah accept our ibadah.
