Just a quick thought as we approach the Ebenezer Service, a Service where we acknowledge how far God has brought us.
"There are those who receive instruction in the knowledge of God, yet they are not changed by it. They take the teaching and set themselves up as instructors of others, though they have never borne the cross themselves.
They arrange words with skill, but without the Spirit. They deliver doctrine without brokenness, knowledge without obedience, and words without power. So they raise up disciples after their own kind — restless, untested, and void of the life of God. They speak what is holy to advance their own name, while their hearts remain far from Him.
Such is the way of men: quick to teach what they have not lived, and eager to lead where they have not died."
This is a sad reality that we are faced with.
"For such men are rebellious and deceivers, who take up the sacred writings not that they might be conformed to Christ, but that Christ might be conformed to their lusts. Having a form of godliness, they wrest the Scriptures to their own destruction, that they may give license to the flesh under the cloak of righteousness. But their condemnation is just."
