HISTORIC: POPE LEO APPOINTS FIRST LAYWOMAN TO HEAD A VATICAN DICASTERY
Today, (2nd June 2026), Pope Leo appointed Maria Montserrat Alvarado, a Mexican Catholic laywoman, currently the President and Chief Operating Officer of America’s Catholic global media outfit, EWTN News, as the new Prefect of the Vatican Dicastery for Social Communications.
