TOPIC : HOLD ON TO JESUS BECAUSE HE IS ABLE
John 11:1-9
[1] Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.
[2] (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.)
[3] So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.”
[4] When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.”
[5] Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.
[6] So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days,
[7] and then he said to his disciples, “Let us go back to Judea.”
[8] “But Rabbi,” they said, “a short while ago the Jews there tried to stone you, and yet you are going back?”
[9] Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours of daylight? Anyone who walks in the daytime will not stumble, for they see by this world’s light.
We are learning from the story of Lazarus. The Bible tells us that Lazarus was sick. When Mary and Martha saw his condition, the first thing they did was send a message to Jesus. They knew that Jesus was able.
They did not simply say, Lazarus is sick. They said, Lord, the one You love is sick. They reminded Jesus of their relationship with Him. They believed that the presence of Jesus could change their situation.
When Jesus received the message, He said. This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory. But Lazarus eventually died. Imagine what Mary and Martha must have felt. They expected Jesus to come immediately. They expected Him to stop everything and rescue Lazarus. But Jesus delayed.
Sometimes you pray, and God does not move according to your timetable. You ask, Lord, where are You? You prayed, but the situation became worse. You trusted God, but the answer did not come when you expected it. But hear me today.
His delay does not mean His absence.
His silence does not mean He has forgotten you. Jesus had not abandoned Lazarus. He was still in control.
Lazarus' sickness was not because God hated him. Jesus said it was for the glory of God. There are situations you may go through that are not punishment. Sometimes your situation becomes an opportunity for people to see the power and glory of God working through your life.
So don't conclude that God has abandoned you because you are going through a difficult season. God is still able! When Lazarus died, Jesus said, Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep. What looked like death to the disciples was still under the authority of Jesus.
When Christ speaks, even death must respond. Eventually, Jesus arrived, and Martha said. Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died. Martha knew Jesus could have prevented it. But Jesus was about to show her something greater than preventing death.
He was about to demonstrate that He has power even over death. Jesus told her. Your brother will rise again. Martha immediately thought about the future. She said she knew Lazarus would rise again at the resurrection on the last day.
But Jesus was not only talking about tomorrow. He was talking about today. Martha was looking at the future, but Jesus was saying.I am here today. Then Jesus declared I am the resurrection and the life. Jesus was not simply saying that He can give resurrection. He was saying He is the resurrection. He was not simply saying that He can give life. He is the life.
Therefore, HOLD ON TO JESUS! Hold on when the answer is delayed. Hold on when the situation gets worse. Hold on when people tell you it is impossible. Hold on when you cannot see a way out. Hold on when what you prayed for seems to have died. Hold on when people leave you. Hold on when you are rejected. Hold on when you have no money. Hold on when you don't understand what God is doing. HOLD ON TO CHRIST!
Martha said, I know. She still believed because she had seen what Jesus had done before. She knew His power. She knew who was standing in front of her. And that is what we need today. You may not understand your present situation, but remember what you know about Jesus.
He is able. He is faithful. He is powerful. He is still God. Don't let your present situation make you forget His past faithfulness. You may be looking at what is dead, but Jesus is looking at what He is about to resurrect. Your Lazarus may be dead, but Jesus is not finished!
Your situation may look impossible, but God is still able to reveal His glory. Don't give up because Jesus has not arrived according to your timetable. He may not come when you expect Him, but He will never lose His power. The world may reject you because of Christ. People may walk away from you because you belong to Him.
Things may change. People may change. Your circumstances may change. But Christ remains faithful. So don't lose Christ because you are afraid of losing people. Don't lose Jesus because you are afraid of losing things. It is better to lose things than to lose Christ. Because if you have Christ, you still have life, hope, and a future.
Christianity is all about Christ. Therefore, don't only hold on to Him when everything is going well.
Hold on when everything is falling apart. Hold on when you understand. Hold on when you don't understand. Hold on when you receive an answer. Hold on when the answer is delayed. Hold on when people stay. Hold on when people leave. Hold on when you can see the way. Hold on when you cannot see the way.
Your season to testify will come. Your season to shine will come. Your season to receive what you have been praying for will come. But until that day comes.
KEEP HOLDING ON! Don't let go of Jesus. Don't let go of your faith. Don't let go of your hope. Because the same Jesus who was able to raise Lazarus is still able today.
*JESUS IS ABLE! So whatever you are facing today, hear this word. HOLD ON TO JESUS BECAUSE HE IS ABLE! Your situation is not bigger than your God. Your problem is not greater than His power. Your delay is not the end of your story. Your tears are not the end. Your disappointment is not the end.
Jesus is still able. And if you still have Jesus, you still have hope.
