Heart-to-heart with the team
We want to wish you a happy 2023. We do apologise for being absent and not writing for a while we do promise to be more engaged and active this year. As the year begins we are all busy making our new year’s resolutions, how we want to be committed to God, to get that body we desire etc.
I want to share about the resolution that surpasses all resolutions, namely us going back to God our first love. Do you remember how you were always eager and looking forward to spending time with Jesus? In those moments nothing mattered but our relationship with God. All our love and attention was for him alone. Exodus 20:1-4 says ‘And God spoke all these words: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the slavery. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down and worship them for I, the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of their parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me.
Most of the time when we read about idols we always think of those visible images that some people make and worship however an idol is anything that we love pursuing more than God. It can be in a form of money, your spouse, your children, ministry, etc anything we love more than God is an Idol. Let’s evaluate our lives and get rid of all the idols that we tend t worship or love more than God.
Revelation 2:2-5 says “I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and endured hardships for my name’s sake, and have grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: you have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.
The church in Ephesus was still doing everything right, working hard, enduring hardships, identifying false apostles, etc., except for their first love with God. It is possible for all of us to continue doing things cause we are familiar with how they should be done and we used to operate in that way; in the process have not realised we are far from God. We end up missing God and what His doing or the direction He is leading us because we are not walking as close to Him as we used to. After all, is said and done our primary purpose and calling is to worship and spend time with God. Everything else flows from that place of intimacy with God.
God, I pray that you will forgive us for loving other things more than you and falling away from our first love which are You. We ask you God to help us to nurture our relationship with you on daily basis. May you become our priority and everything. May we long for you more than anything else. Revive our commitments and our love for you. In Jesus Name we pray Amen!
For the Glorification of Yahweh, our God forever
