“So Moses brought their case before the Lord, and the Lord said to him, “What Zelophehad’s daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them property as an inheritance among their father’s relatives and give their father’s inheritance to them.” Numbers 27:5-7
The scripture above talks of five women who stood up against a patriarchal inheritance system [which sought to disinherit them because of their gender] and won their case! God backed them up!
I recently had a conversation with a young man and tried to encourage him to send his wife back to school. He promptly responded “Haaa Momz, mukadzi haadzidziswe!”....loosely translated “women are not supposed to be educated”. My heart broke and nothing I said could change his mind.
Sadly, women continue to be victims of such mindsets and the world is a poorer place!
But vadikani, women are on God’s empowerment agenda. The longer Africa takes to empower them, the longer it will take for Africa to rise up. Facilitate!
Today is the last day of our women’s ministry week of prayer and one of the things we have put in place for this year is a Self Help Program to empower women and we will be equipping them with practical skills to sustain themselves.
To God be the glory!
