Handlebars of Hope

Handlebars of Hope We are a Christian cycling group that uses our love for cycling and our love of Christ to bring us together for fellowship and to serve.

Handlebars of Hope is a group of amateur cycling enthusiasts who decided to use cycling as a means of fellowship and unconditional support for those going through hardships. Our cycle rides are social and not competitive as the major part of our ride is fellowship, lend a listening ear or helping hand to all those in need of a friend. In the future, we aim to raise funds to enable us to spread the

love of Christ to all in need. We cycle every weekend at the Cradle of humankind. Our rides vary from 20
to 45km. We cater for young and old, with our youngest member being 9
years old. No rider gets left behind! If cycling is not your thing, but you need an ear or a shoulder to cry on, please feel free to message us on Messenger or Watsapp.

This song has a special meaning for us …

‘carry your candle, run to the darkness, seek out the helpless, confused and torn’.

‘Praying to our Father, in the name of Jesus, make us a beacon in darkest times’

As a community, let’s take our candle’s and go light our world!

Our team have been extremely busy with cleanups around the Boksburg area.

A big shoutout to everyone who has assisted and contributed to this cause. It is truly appreciated and valued!

We would like to urge the community to all do their bit in keeping our town clean and safe for all - be it by keeping the area around your property clean or even just by picking up a piece of litter off the ground!

Together we rise!

A quick update on our clean up project …

We have a built up an amazing team consisting of two groups of 5 men in each group.

The clean up is going very well and the difference can already be seen and felt.

A big thank you to all who have stopped by to thank the teams and to give a word of encouragement and motivation. The guys are working really hard to make our areas safer for us all!

We have embarked on a new initiative from 2023 which is centered around community and quality of life.

Not only has our beautiful town deteriorated with public spaces not being adequately maintained impacting quality of life, but the long grass also affords criminals hiding places and poses a safety hazard to communities.

The Handlebars of Hope (HOH) clean-up project aims to not only uplift the public spaces and restore pride in our community, but also provide employment to destitute community members.

For now, HOH is able to employ one person a day and equip them with safety wear and garden equipment to start the clean-up on selected parks and open spaces, however with your support, this initiative can be expanded and more people can be employed and equipped. We are appealing to the community to take pride and ownership of our area and support this valuable initiative.

Meals on Wheels Cycle Race

Absolutely honoured to have shared the road with these two amazing people and exceptional cyclists.

Today saw the worst wind we have ever experienced in a cycle race! Yet these two rode their hearts out!

Theressa Lamprecht, your very first road race and you absolutely nailed it! You rode like a champ and I was brought to tears by your drive and determination. You never believed you could ride a road race, let alone finish within the first half of all the cyclists, coming 11th out of all the woman, and 4th in the vet category. To have that ability in your very first race, I am so excited to see what is yet to come!

Alistair Chadwick, from being in a terrible accident just the other day, to climbing back in the saddle and doing your PB in horrific winds. Completely blown away with your sub 3 and humbled to have been able to witness your journey into road cycle thus far. Here’s to many more goals being reached and dreams being achieved!

The two of you of the very essence of the saying ‘what makes a hero is not the absence of fear, but the determination to act despite the fear’.

Today is exactly what cycling is all about!

Well done to all the cyclist who took part in this race. The wind was like none other, but we did it!

The Ride Joburg Cycle Race

Reecie, I have never seen such bravery, courage, resilience and perseverance! To be involved in an accident going almost 50kmph and still get up, injured and with a damaged bike, and to cycle another 77km is heroic to say the least!
I am honoured to have been a part of your race and privileged to have had you be a part of mine.

This race highlighted two things that today I know for sure: “In family, no one gets left behind” and “No weapon formed against us shall prosper”. Despite the circumstances, we crossed that finish line together!

There are so many people who have been a massive part of this journey to the 94.7, so to each and every one of you, I have seen you, I have heard you, I have felt you and today I want to thank you! I love you all to the moon and back!

To all the cyclists who took part in the race, well done and a big congratulations! To all those who were injured in the race, we are praying for you for a speedy recovery.
