Today is the Feast of St Mark the Evangelist. Tradition holds that he was taken to Cyprus by the apostle Barnabas. From there he seems to have gone to Rome, and was known to Peter, who mentions him in the epistle, 1 Peter. Eventually he ended up in Egypt and is considered the founder of the Coptic Church.

In a sun seared car park in Kenton-on-Sea, with a parched wall for a backdrop, a thistle rose from the ground. It staked its place in this far from perfect ‘garden’. Around it lies the evidence of a shatttered car window. The sparkling shards adding beauty to the scene.
May your 2026 be like the story that the photo tells. May you grow and blossom wherever you are. May you transform your surroundings, having a positive influence on what surrounds you. Life finds a way of pushing through, despite the surroundings.
And life is underwritten by our faithful Creator. Its rhythms are backed by God.
