On the 25th November 2024, the Mothers' Union in the Bloemfontein Archdeaconry, in collaboration with the Anglican Youth Ministries (St. Agnes, Girls & Boys Friendly Society, St. Francis Guild of Alter Servers, and Young people), launched the 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Children Abuse at St. Patrick's Anglican Church in Bochabela, Bloemfontein. To abide by the worldwide call to all members to wear orange as a symbol of standing against Gender Based Violence (GBV), the representatives wore orange t-shirts, carried banners with messages, and signed a GBV pledge.

Mosamaria Aids Ministry (an Anglican NGO), in partnership with the Bloemfontein Archdeaconry Mothers' Union, launched the 16 Days Of Activism against Women and Children Abuse* and the fight against Gender Based Violence (GBV) on the 21st November 2024 at St. Patrick's Anglican Church in Bochabela, Bloemfontein.

The organisation also launched THE RED CHAIR CAMPAIGN in memory of the late Mme Mapule Masooa from Thaba Nchu who was a member of the Mothers' Union at St. Augustine's Parish in the Diocese of the Free State. On the 14th September 2020, she visited her friend, and at about 19:30 she was kidnapped on her way back home by a young drug abuser who r***d and murdered her. The family, together with the community, searched for her (even at the suspect's house) for three days with no luck, until on the 17th September 2020 when her body was found in a shallow grave in the murderer's yard. Present at this event were also members of the South African Police Services (SAPS).

Red flags are a term commonly used to describe behaviours that are harmful, but they can be easily missed or downplayed.

Our RISE UP campaign exists to challenge the status quo, and to ensure that we as Mothers’ Union, stand against domestic abuse – whatever form it takes.
