WHERE DID THAT COME FROM? By Thelma Lothian

Many people today use various sayings in everyday conversation, not realizing they are direct quotes from the Bible. Even atheists, who do not believe in God or His Word, the Bible, use expressions that are deeply embedded in the Word.
Here are some expressions that I have found in the Bible. Read through them and see how many times you have used them in your everyday speech.
1. The apple of my eye - Psalm 17: 8
2. A ripe old age - Judges 8: 32
3. How the mighty have fallen - 2 Samuel 1: 19
4. Just a drop in the bucket - Isaiah 40: 15
5. A rod for his back - Proverbs 14: 3
6. Out of the mouths of babes - Matthew 21: 16
7. Pride goes before a fall - Proverbs 16: 18
8. A leopard can’t change his spots - Jeremiah 13: 23
9. A stumbling block - 1 Peter 2: 8
10. Risked their necks - Romans 16: 4
11. A little bird told me - Ecclesiastes 10: 20
12. Escaped by the skin of their teeth - Job 19: 20
13. Rule with a rod of iron - Revelation 2: 27
14. Suffer fools gladly - 2 Corinthians 11: 19
15. Wisdom comes with age - Job 12: 12
16. There is no peace for the wicked - Isaiah 48: 22
17. Beware, your sins will find you out - Numbers 32: 23

We received such a wonderful and encouraging message from Johan Smulders on Sunday. The lesson topic was "One another Commands". Below are the 8 commands God's Word gives us. Please take a few minutes to look up the scriptures for each command:
1. John 13: 34 - Love one another
2. Romans 15: 7 - Accept one another
3. Hebrews 10: 24 - Encourage one another
4. Ephesians 4: 32 - Forgive one another
5. Romans 12: 10 - Honour one another
6. Romans 15: 14 - Instruct one another
7. Galatians 5: 13 - Serve one another
8. Ephesians 5: 21 - Submit to one another

We have so much to be thankful for. God continues to bless us in many ways, but sometimes we are distracted by life's difficulties. We need to thank God for our blessings.
Psalm 9:1 "I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds".
People who are thankful to God are thankful for those who care for them, as well as God's blessings to them. Thankful people are content with how God has dealt with them. Psalms 106, 107, 118 and 136 all begin with these words, “O, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever.” One of the best things about thankfulness is that the more you choose it, the easier it gets. The more you profess gratitude, the more you notice things to be grateful for. Let us join in spirit to give thanks to our God for all that He’s done and all he’s doing!
