Fasting and Prayer (Wed 10/02/2021)
Teachings about prayer learning from the book of Luke
What, How and Who to pray for:
Pray as you commit yourself to Godâs work: âwhen Jesus also was baptized and was praying, the heavens were openedâ (3:21).
â˘Start the day with prayer: âAnd when it was day, he departed and went to a desolate placeâ (4:42). Mark 1:35 tells us Jesus went to this place to pray.
â˘Push away from the crowds to pray: âGreat crowds gathered to hear him . . . but he would withdraw to desolate places and prayâ (5:15-16).
â˘Pray for people to invest in, just as Jesus did before calling His disciples: âhe went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to Godâ (6:12).
â˘Pray thanksgiving for food: âAnd taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing over themâ (9:16).
â˘Spend time praying alone: âNow it happened that as he was praying alone. . . â (9:18).
â˘Take others with you on a prayer retreat: âhe took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to prayâ (9:28).
â˘Simply rejoice in prayer: âIn that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, âI thank you, Fatherâ (10:21).
â˘Pray, and then teach others how to pray: âNow Jesus was praying in a certain place . . . And he said to them, âWhen you pray, say . . .ââ (11:1-2).
â˘Pray for others under spiritual attack: âSimon, Simon, Satan demanded to have you . . . but I have prayed for youâ (22:31-32).
â˘Cry out to God in your grief: âFather, if you are willing, remove this cup from meâ (22:42).
â˘Pray for Godâs will to be done: âNevertheless, not my will, but yours, be doneâ (22:42).
â˘Pray for your enemies: âFather, forgive them, for they know not what they doâ (23:34).
â˘Pray when you face death: âFather, into your hands I commit my spirit!â (23:46).
â˘Pray blessings over Jesusâ followers: âThen he led them as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them.(24:50)
