I kept dropping the ball. Everything was off.
I remember thinking:
I should tell the coach to start someone else.
Instead, he put his arm around me and said:
"They're going to target you. Go out there and show them why that's a mistake."
He had seen everything.
And he still chose me.
Jesus calls Peter, who will deny him. Thomas, who will doubt. Judas, who will betray him.
And Jesus sends them anyway.
When have you been trusted, not because you had it together, but because someone believed in you anyway?

In John 6, the crowd struggles to believe that Jesus could be the answer to what they really needed.

They ask:

"How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"

A few years ago, I was exhausted, stressed about money, and working a job that paid almost nothing.

When someone suggested gratitude, I thought:

"I don't need gratitude. I need money."

The problem wasn't that I hadn't heard the suggestion.

The problem was that I had already decided what help was supposed to look like.

How often do we do the same thing with God?

I fouled him badly.

My body went cold. I had heard what this guy could do.

After the game, he walked up to me and said:
“It’s just a game. I know you didn’t mean it. Me and you, we’re still cool.”

I couldn’t believe it.

“God sent the Son into the world not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.” — John 3:17

Sometimes the thing that changes you isn’t punishment.

It’s mercy from someone who had the power not to give it.

At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended upon the Church.

The same Holy Spirit still transforms ordinary people into beacons of divine light.

Different gifts.
Different callings.
Different lives.

Yet the same Spirit moves through all of us.

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit.”
- 1 Corinthians 12:4

Come, Holy Spirit.

“What’s next?”

People kept asking.
And honestly, I felt like I was supposed to already know.

One day I overheard two adults talking in a mall.
One of them laughed and said to a teenager:

“You young people think we Ballies have everything figured out… we really don’t.”

Then the other one said:
“We’re all just trying our best.”

And I remember quietly thinking:

Wait… so nobody fully knows?

Strangely, it made me breathe a little easier.

“How is it that we hear, each of us in our own language?”

They weren’t speaking to me.
But somehow… it still reached exactly where I was.

"I believe…"

Everyone around me was saying it. I wasn't sure I still did.

First Sunday back after losing someone. I had prayed for them constantly. And they still died.

I kept looking around wondering how everyone else seemed so certain. Am I lying by standing here?

But I stayed.

"They worshipped him, but some doubted."

Maybe faith sometimes looks less like having no questions… and more like staying in the church while you still have them.

"They laid their hands on them…"

After that, something was present that hadn't been there before.

A conversation in a car. A sentence that stayed.
A question I can't shake.

When has someone's presence left you with something you're still carrying?

30/04/2026

I almost didn't call.

There was an uncle I never really spoke to. Someone everyone kept their distance from. But something kept nudging me. Not a voice. Just something I couldn't shake.

When he picked up, he paused. Then he said:

"In my whole life… no one has ever just called me to say happy birthday."

My throat tightened. I didn't know why.

"He called you out of darkness into his marvelous light."

I used to think that meant becoming completely different. Now I wonder if it's smaller than that. Seeing differently. Even slightly.

Someone I had already decided about… wasn't finished yet.

And maybe: neither was I.

My mom’s phone dropped.
Then I heard her cry.
I wasn’t crying.
But something in me already was.
“They were cut to the heart.”
Sometimes truth arrives there first.
This week’s Living Word reflection sits in that quiet place between hearing the news… and feeling its weight.
