RESTING IN JESUS
TEXT: MATTHEW 11:28-30
VERSE OF THE DAY:
_“COME TO ME, ALL YOU WHO LABOUR AND ARE HEAVY LADEN, AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST" - MATTHEW 11:28 (NKJV)_
Resting in Jesus is a vital aspect of the Christian faith, offering believers comfort and peace amidst life's challenges. This lesson examines what it means to find rest in Jesus and how this rest rejuvenates our spirits and strengthens our walk with God.
In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus invites those who are weary and burdened to come to Him for rest. This invitation highlights not only His compassion but also the assurance that true rest can only be found in Him. By laying down our burdens at His feet, we can experience a profound sense of peace and renewal, as Jesus takes on our struggles and gives us His strength.
Moreover, Hebrews 4:9-11 encourages believers to enter into God’s rest, stating, “There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.” This passage emphasises the importance of ceasing from our own works and trusting in God’s provision. The rest mentioned here is not merely physical but encompasses every aspect of our lives, ensuring that we find solace in God’s presence and His promises.
Philippians 4:6-7 further reiterates this concept, urging us to “be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” The promise that follows is peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. This teaches us that resting in Jesus involves trust in Him for both our needs and our concerns.
Psalm 62:1-2 beautifully encapsulates this theme: “Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from Him. Truly, He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” Here, we see that resting in God brings stability and security, allowing our souls to be anchored in His faithfulness and love.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for the rest we find in Jesus. Help us to lay our burdens down at His feet and grant us the grace to rest in Your presence in Jesus' Name, Amen.
