"I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called." This can and must happen every day of the week, even when the temple seems empty and the songs of the saints fade away as each week wanes.
The Daily Offices bring the gifts of God to people in every walk of life, every day, morning, afternoon, and evening. Throughout the Holy Church, the prayers of saints ascend according to liturgies and prayers that have been found in time to be faithful to the Word of God, in the church and the home. The Psalms, which speak of Christ and longsuffering that His people endure, are sung in earnest, showing us how men share in the vocations of father, brother, son, warrior, shepherd, and the afflicted, with our Lord Christ, who Himself faithfully fulfilled His duties according to the law of love, even unto death on a cross.
The Eternal Word, the LORD, Christ Himself, risen and reigning, daily refreshes us, so that our hearts are renewed by the preaching of this Gospel for repentance and the remission of sins. Enlightened by the Spirit in the faith we share with saints on earth with all the saints of Heaven, we stand on the true revelation of the Glory of the Lord in His Holy Temple, our Meat and Drink indeed, where angels attend round about and guard us against the attacks of the spiritual realm, which our darkened eyes have yet to see fully.
Thus we eagerly find every opportunity to be one body united by the confession of faith made in the historic collects, hymns, and creeds of the Church on earth, which stand alone on the Eternal Word. We daily humble ourselves before God, not exalting our praise but instead "Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." with a lowliness in our recognition of the good confessions that has come before us as a gift from God, who has promised to guard our hearts and minds by His Holy Spirit.
In this one body, men who serve in such lowliness and meekness rightly lead the saints of God on earth in proclaiming "One Lord, one faith, one baptism" in the Holy Church. In the parish and the home, these representatives of Christ in each estate humbly forebear with the family to clearly confess "One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." Under the Good Shepherd and with our shepherd-pastors, we confess that Spirit alone gives life and by His power the Triune God fills all the earth!
Such is the work of faithful men who chant, speak, and show reverence to the Almighty God and the Christ who dwells among us and comes to us in Word and Sacrament. We await each day that blessed day when the cup of salvation will again appear. Amen.
