Last summer I had the opportunity to film the sacred and special experience that is Camp Aurora. After 5 years of staffing, I've realized that sometimes the simplest of moments have been the most precious to me.
From receiving unbridled hugs from youth campers I've never met before to being unexpectedly gifted with a perfectly crafted smore, to losing my voice after singing unabashedly for hours, to getting moved to tears in watching a young person courageously share their story for the first time. All of these moments matter.
May this video be a reminder that wherever you're at in life, Camp Aurora will always be there to welcome you home.
To Aunt Heather: Thank you for being the ONE. From the beginning, you have never stopped imagining a place where all children could experience, if only for a week, a taste of the "Kingdom of Heaven". Thank you for accepting us as we are and always seeing our greatness.
To Tamami and Virginia: Thank you for shining so brightly. You both refuse to never give up on what's possible for people. I'm moved by your courage and your unrelenting commitment to make Camp Aurora a place where all are welcome. I will never stop cackling with you about each and every memory we share.
To all the Staff, past and present: Thank you for holding space for young people to grow and discover who they are. The traditions you have created, held tightly, and passed along have made Camp Aurora a place like no other.
To Aunt Catherine: This video would not have been possible without your contribution and your love for us. Thank you for your fearlessness and devotion. We feel so protected and supported by you.
To Justin: You MADE THIS VIDEO. You spent hours and days and weeks investing your creativity, your editing skills, and your sincerity to bring this footage to life. Because of you, our campers get to be forever reminded of THEIR special moments. Thank you for that incredible gift.
To You: Thank you for coming year after year. Camp would be nothing with you. We love you forever.
