Aging Across The Zarathushti World: A White Paper

This white paper documents the learning from our session: “Aging Across the Zarathushti World” at the 2022 World Zoroastrian Congress held in New York. For this session, the authors solicited Zoroastrian (Zarathushti) Associations in different countries about the condition of Z seniors and learnt about their needs as well as models that help improve Z senior’s quality of life. We found that many Z diasporas are well supported. Many of the survey respondents described aging Z immigrants cared for by their children and with some governmental social support or community services from Zarathushti and secular groups. However, our analysis surfaced a growing need among Z seniors in India.

As with most communities, Zarathushtis want to support their own family members. But what about those who we are not directly related to. Do we have an obligation to them? Do we agree that our global Zarathushti community is one? The authors believe we should support our aging co-religionists and offer suggestions based on the research for this session and subsequent visits to India.

The Annual General Body Meeting (“AGM”) of the Zoroastrian Association of Houston (“ZAH”) will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at 1 pm at the The Zarathushti Heritage and Cultural Center, 8787 W. Airport Boulevard, Houston, TX 77071 (“ZHCC”).

Please note :
TO VOTE, SUBMIT NOMINATIONS, AGENDA ITEMS AND/OR TO ATTEND THE AGM, ZAH MEMBERSHIP DUES FOR 2023 SHOULD BE PAID IN FULL BY SUNDAY, MARCH 5, 2023. NO MEMBERSHIP CHECKS WILL BE COLLECTED AT THE AGM

Lunch will be served prior to AGM.

1 pm – ZAH AGM 2023

The Pakistan government has declared devastating floods a “national emergency” after nearly 1,000 people died and more than 30 million are “badly affected” as monsoon rains continue to lash the South Asian nation. At least 937 people have died since mid-June, including 343 children, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), with large swaths of the southwestern province of Balochistan remaining submerged, bringing back the memory of the devastating 2010 floods.

The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund is one of the 1st responders to the flood emergency in Pakistan - which has displaced millions of people around the country.PPAF has already disbursed PKR 250m for immediate relief to an estimated 150,000 people in desperate need of food, shelter & medical help.

PPAF is led by Roshan K. Bharucha, who is the Chairwoman of the PPAF board.

Roshan has reached out to FEZANA to put forth this appeal for funds.

ZAH SPORTS COMMITTEE would like to invite you to a KPI / PARSI GYMKHANA style SPORTS day!

On Sunday August 28, 2022 - 9 am to 5 pm at the ZHCC


We will start the day at 9 am by watching the absolute top draw Asia Cup T20 Cricket match between INDIA and PAKISTAN with some tasty snack treats, tea/coffee and of course the continuous banter, “expert commentator” comments, and leg pulling between the cricket fanatic Zarathushtis

Irrespective of the result, the match will be followed by some delicious, lip smacking spicy DHANSAK, KABABS and KACHUMBER by our very own Naushad Mehta at around 12.30 to 1 pm

Once lunch is over, we will begin our Sports day with our kids forming their own teams for some intense basketball competition on our newly repaired Court as well as matching their skills on the Darts board.

Our not so young Ben-Gay and ICY-HOT users will begin their intense tussle at Table Tennis including rounders, Carrom and other games for some year-long bragging rights with impromptu tournaments if needed.

And last but not the least, our fiercest competition will be on the Mahjong tables with our feisty combative ladies trying to make a statement

Tea and snacks will be served at 4 pm and we will wrap up the evening by 5 pm.
Not interested in the cricket or games, that’s ok; come for some delicious lunch and to view our sports aficionados compete with a little gossip (of course 😊).
