HAPPY VESAK DAY
(Eighth day of the fourth lunar month)
(Multi-translations in the comment section below)
---
‘When the Bodhisatta came forth from his mother’s womb, he did not touch the earth. The four young gods received him and set him before his mother, saying: “Rejoice, O queen, a son of great power has been born to you.”’ (Acchariya Abbhuta Sutta)

On this very day, over 2,600 years ago (the 8th day of the 4th lunar month), the world welcomed the advent of “the Great Eye,” “the Great Light” – Shakyamuni Buddha. The birth of the World-Honored One on earth is a rare event, occurring only once in numerous eons.
Out of his compassion for all beings, he departed the tranquil Tusita heaven and descended into a world full of darkness, delusion, and defilement. Over three asankhyeya kalpa, diligently cultivated himself, practiced all the arduous deeds, and even sacrificed his flesh and blood for the path of enlightenment. The World-Honored One attained unsurpassed enlightenment and realized the truth.
The birth of the World-Honored One has brought boundless joy to all humans and devas. May the Grand Vesak Celebration be widely spread, so that many may establish an auspicious connection with the Buddha Dharma. Thenceforth, may all beings approach the truth, cease all suffering, and advance towards ultimate liberation.

“The Buddha is the great light of wisdom in this world, so his birth is an extremely rare event. He was born and set foot on this planet. It is an immeasurable joy.” (Thay Thich Truc Thai Minh)

Vesak Celebration - spreading the Dharma, the light of truth, far and wide
(Multi-translations in the comment section below)
---
“Vesak is not merely a day to commemorate the Buddha's birth, but a celebration to propagate the Buddha Dharma. The Buddha is a great man who brought the light of truth and the path to end suffering to this world. Therefore, the Buddha’s birth anniversary should be honored and promoted widely so that more people can come to the Buddha Dharma. Through this connection, they can approach the truth, end suffering, and head toward liberation.
If we truly wish to help others be free of suffering, we must spread Buddhism far and wide. That is truly a beneficial deed.” - Thay Thich Truc Thai Minh

Every life matters
---
The Buddha taught: Any being born into this world cherishes its own life. Just as we fear pain, imprisonment, and harm, so do all other beings. All beings long to live a complete and peaceful life, without being imprisoned, beaten, or having their lives taken away. Understanding the suffering and aspirations for life of all beings helps us to love and respect each other more. Let us spread love to protect this sacred equality of all sentient beings.

Three main reasons why the Buddha chose Kushinagar for His Parinirvana
---
When it became known that the Buddha was about to enter Parinirvana, Venerable Ananda respectfully asked why He chose the small town of Kushinagar instead of large and prosperous cities, such as Rajagaha, Savatthi, or Varanasi,... In response, the Buddha revealed three profound reasons as follows:

1. The connection to the Buddha’s past lives
In the past, Kushinagar was once a very prosperous capital ruled by a Wheel-Turning King Mahasudassana, one of the Buddha’s former lives. The Buddha said that in this very place, He had relinquished His life seven times before. Therefore, in this final departure, He chose to enter Parinirvana here as well.

2. Continuing the tradition of the Buddhas
The Buddha taught that many Buddhas had also entered Parinirvana at this place. Similarly, the Bodhi Tree (located in present-day Bodh Gaya) is where many Buddhas have attained enlightenment. These connections are truly extraordinary.

3. The condition to enlighten Subhadda - the Buddha’s final disciple
Even at 80, physically frail, and likening His body to an “old cart” held together with straps, the Buddha still decided to walk nearly 200 kilometers from Vesali to Kushinagar. That was because He knew there was still one final disciple to be enlightened—Subhadda.

The compassion of the World-Honored One is boundless; He did not leave anyone behind. The Buddha once taught that all those who could be guided had been guided, and for those who had not, the conditions for future enlightenment had been set.
Although the Buddha entered Parinirvana, His compassion remains throughout the Dharma realm. His example of boundless compassion and immeasurable virtue for all beings is an invaluable lesson for His disciples.

On the occasion of the 15th of the second lunar month, let us direct our minds and pay homage to the boundless compassion of the World-Honored One.
