I live in the Kingdom of God’s Love-son, in His Light and dominion forever! I’m enthroned with Christ, in the realms of glory, where I exercise dominion over Satan, rule over the world and circumstances by the power of the Holy Spirit. Hallelujah!

When a couple announces their engagement, most people want to hear “their story.” How did they meet? Was it love at first sight? Were they childhood sweethearts, or did they meet later in life? Whatever the case may be, a couple’s origin story intrigues us.

Have you ever considered the origin story of marriage itself? If you want to have a healthy marriage, the first thing you must understand is that marriage is God’s idea. And because He created it, we must go to Him for its definition and understanding. This means that when your marriage, whatever its origin story, is brought under the rule of God, your relationship can flourish and become all that God intended it to be.

From Scripture, we discover that God created marriage to expand His kingdom in human history. A kingdom marriage is “a covenantal union between a man and a woman who commit themselves to function in unison under divine authority in order to replicate God’s image and expand His rule in the world through both their individual and joint callings.” That’s a mouthful, so you may want to go back and re-read it. But simply put, the mission of marriage is to replicate the image of God in history and to carry out His command to let mankind rule.

So, marriage is not merely a social construct. Nor is happiness its goal. This is one of the main problems that many marriages face today. Couples relate to marriage only through social and emotional terms. We must go back to the biblical understanding of marriage. God created it as a sacred covenant, with the responsibility to reflect His image and to advance His kingdom. Happiness is a benefit of marriage, but it is not the goal of marriage. The goal is to reflect God through advancing His kingdom on earth. Happiness occurs as an organic outgrowth when the biblical goal is pursued.

The bottom line is marriage is a kingdom concept, not just a social one.

How does making happiness the goal of marriage create problems in one’s marriage?

Avoid being entangled in an emotional or physical concern rather than the prophetic and spiritual meaning of marriage.

The Power of Hiddenness

Hidden seasons are sacred seasons. Being hidden with Christ means you will go through seasons where you feel like your whole life is under construction. Many times we feel buried, but we must remember that hidden seasons produce strengths that unveiling seasons cannot. Assets like character, authority, wisdom, boldness, vision, morality, special talents are not developed while everyone is watching. I’m sure we all could agree of how grateful we are for the small circle of people who have played key roles in these seasons of our lives, because the building process is not always beautiful but chaotic.

When you squeeze an orange, what do you get? Orange juice. When you squeeze a grape, what do you get? Grape juice. When life, tests, and relationships squeeze you, what do they get? Frustration, mediocrity, and weakness or focus, courage, and strength? Hidden seasons are where the pressing and pruning happen in our lives. If you're experiencing the loving pressing and pruning of the Lord, I’ve got great news for you, friend. You've not been BURIED, you've been HIDDEN! Hidden seasons are sacred seasons because that's where lasting growth is built.

STAY HIDDEN!!!

A United States submarine was coming back following World War II when something went terribly wrong, and it sank to the bottom of the ocean. Although it hadn’t been touched during the war, it sunk in the Virginia harbor just as it returned. The coastguard dispatched divers to the sub to figure out what went wrong. When they arrived, they heard a sailor tapping these words in Morse Code on the inside wall of the sub: “Is there hope?”

It’s a critical question, particularly as we start a new year. We live in a broken world, a truth that 2020 reminded us of often. Just about everyone had their lives shook up in some way.

Pastors, too, struggled with hopelessness. Many endured ministry challenges they had never faced before.

That’s why the question, “Is there hope?” is so important for 2021.

As your church faces the challenges and joys of 2021, let me point you to five unshakable truths that anchor our hope as Christians. This year, no matter what your congregation is facing, remind yourself and those you lead of these truths from 1 Peter 1.

God chose us before we chose him.
Peter tells us, “You were chosen according to the purpose of God the Father and were made a holy people by his Spirit, to obey Jesus Christ and be purified by his blood” (1 Peter 1:2 GNT). Long before you chose God, he chose you. Your salvation was his idea. God took the initiative. And you were chosen for his purpose—to make you holy and get you ready for heaven.

We all know what it’s like to feel chosen—whether you’re chosen for a team, a job, or as a spouse. But the highest honor you will ever receive is this: God has chosen you to spend eternity with him. That’s a big deal!

God always treats us with mercy.
Peter goes on to write: “All honor to God, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ; for it is his boundless mercy that has given us the privilege of being born again so that we are now members of God’s own family” (1 Peter 1:3 TLB). The more we understand grace the more it amazes us. It’s completely undeserved and unmerited.

This truth gives us hope even when you blow it (and you will at some point in 2021). When you fail, God doesn’t get mad at you. He always acts with mercy toward you. Why? As a follower of Jesus, you’re covered in his blood and salvation. No matter what’s in store for you or your church, you can rest completely in that truth.

God has secured our future.
If you’re a believer, you don’t need to worry about your eternal destiny. It’s secure. No matter what else changes in 2021, your eternity won’t shift an inch. Peter writes, “Now we live in the hope of eternal life because Christ rose again from the dead. And God has reserved for his children the priceless gift of eternal life; it is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay” (1 Peter 1:3 TLB).

You have a reservation in heaven that can never be canceled. 2021 won’t be the end of you. God has written the final chapter of your life—and you win!

God’s power will protect us.
No matter what the year ahead has in store, you can always count on God to help. Peter describes it like this: “Through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see” (1 Peter 1:4 NLT).
5 Reasons to Have Hope in 2021

Sometimes, even pastors feel helpless and powerless. But when God is in your life, he has mighty power to help you. His power is bigger than anything you will face this year.

God is preparing us for eternity.
When you really understand this truth, it’ll change everything about how you deal with difficulties. God is using everything in your life—the good, the bad, and the ugly—to prepare you for eternity.

Peter describes this so powerfully in 1 Peter 1:6-7, “So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold” (NLT).

You will certainly have trials in 2021. You may have a more difficult year than 2020. But 1 Peter 1 reminds us that our trials are temporary. They will pass one day.

In the meantime, these trials will help you grow. They’ll test your faith—and strengthen it. You’ll be better because of them.

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. —Romans 8:37 NKJV

Benjamin Franklin once said there were only two things certain in life: death and taxes. Enoch and Elijah might question the first, and someone in prison for tax evasion might question the second. I submit that there is only one thing in this life that is certain: the love of God for His creation.

The apostle Paul reassures us in Romans 8:38-39:

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (NKJV)

You can rest today, child of God, in the knowledge that God loves you now and for all eternity.
