A TIDBIT OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture saith, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Have you ever tried to crank a lawnmower engine (or something similar) and had to keep pressing the prime bulb to get it to run.
I am reminded that sometimes we have trouble living the way God desires because we only get a ‘little gas’ rather than getting the pumped primed. We are like the water we had in the well where we lived during part of my teen years. There were many times that we were not getting water to the house and had to go work on the pump and tank sometimes needing to prime the pump to get the water flowing again.
We may come to church on Sunday to get a drink of spiritual water from the Word of God because we have gotten hot and thirsty as we have gone through the hot and dry desert of this world. We have the tendency to drink a little water of the Word providing a little satisfaction to the parched and dry mouths of our souls.
We then leave and wonder why it is so hard to make it through the week and wishing for another drink of water. We return the next Sunday to get our drink and thus continues a cycle in our lives. Is that what God really intended? Does God desire that we get just enough to quench a little of our spiritual thirst? I think not. I believe God provides the water needed on Sunday to make sure the pump is primed to give us what we need for the week. If we never take the water provided and pour it in the pump and use it, we will not have the continual flow all during the week.
Next time you are at church, don’t just get a quick drink. Fill up the pump so that it is primed to give you all the spiritual refreshment needed day after day for the coming week. Take what you have been given; apply it; and it will provide everything you need to make no matter how dry and hot this world around us gets.
Thought for the Day: There is plenty of water in the well of God’s Word but we must stay primed to continually drink from it.
