A prayer for PENTECOST SUNDAY:
Loving Lord,
WHEN THE DAY CAME, HOLY BREATH FILLED THE PLACE
AND ITS PEOPLE — YOUR PEOPLE.

Though from all sorts of other places, Your breath drew them together into common image-bearing community!

Though they brought with them a variety of possessions and achievements, Your loving generosity made their “little” much, and enriched the whole.

Though they spoke different heart languages, tongues were loosed and ears tuned to share common praise for Your awesome deeds — in loving the world back from the dead.

Though apparently nothing changed outside their assembly, STILL a harvest began that will leave nothing the same until all is NEW.

On the strength of Your Holy Breath, the poison of forbidden fruit is purged, estrangement and shame are banished, siblings reconcile, as self and clan cast their crowns before You and learn Love as the law of the land. In the blessing and bounty of Holy Presence the old order passes away and Your “Very Good” is the fitting final judgment.

In the unfolding hours of today, Lord of Pentecostal Promise, let Your people embrace, embody, and enter this harvest movement, through Jesus our risen Messiah, who with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, One God, forever lives and reigns, Amen.
