Being a part of the 14,600 congregations in the United States who discussed the Constitution and other foundational documents during the 5th Sunday in May, what was your takeaway? What did the discussion impress upon your mind?

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in more than 14,600 congregations around the United States discussed the importance of the Constitution and other foundational documents during Sunday services on May 31, 2026.

In a video shown on Sunday, President D. Todd Christofferson of the First Presidency, accompanied by Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, said, “We believe that the most important aspect of the Constitution is its role in promoting and protecting the individual moral agency of God’s children everywhere.”

Members of one small congregation (branch) of the Church in Tampa, Florida, shared what’s happening in their home countries, the freedoms that have been taken away, and how grateful they are for the religious liberties that now allow them to worship as they wish.

Dade City Branch President Steven Hatch said, “Whatever is going on in the world or whatever politics are happening, the Savior unites us. It’s up to us members of the Church and all American citizens to continue fighting for religious freedom for all.”

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

The United States will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence throughout 2026. A new video will be available on ChurchofJesusChrist.org in which President D. Todd Christofferson and Elder Quentin L. Cook will offer
instruction about the significance of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and related events that enabled the Restoration of the Church. All wards and branches in the United States are invited to use this video during a fifth-Sunday meeting on May 31 to
discuss the importance of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and how these documents support religious freedom and our God-given agency.

Additionally, on Sunday, July 5, 2026, all are invited to participate in a unified fast to express gratitude for religious liberty and to pray that it be strengthened throughout the world. Please convey this invitation to members of your stakes, wards, and branches
beforehand so they can prayerfully consider the focus of their fast.

Over the course of 2026, members are also invited to participate in service projects and activities associated with the 250th anniversary observance, including projects organized through JustServe and FamilySearch.

Sincerely,
The First Presidency

Faith in something greater than ourselves enables us to do what we have said we'll do, to press forward when we are tired or hurt or afraid, to keep going when the challenge seems overwhelming and the course is entirely uncertain. ~ GORDON B. HINCKLEY

Sometimes the most common sense path isn’t the one Providence would have us take.

“I grew up in Utah, and now I’m a 21-year-old living in New York City studying politics and psychology at NYU. Law school is the plan, which is exciting and a little scary, but I feel like I’m where I’m supposed to be.

“I actually committed to BYU first, but when NYU accepted me, my parents and I prayed about it. We all felt New York was right, even though it was the harder choice. That moment taught me that if I try to follow God, He’ll put me where I need to be.

“Moving here changed my faith, too. Back home church sometimes felt like routine. Here, I had to choose it for myself. My congregation welcomed me immediately, gave me opportunities to serve, and showing up each week has helped me grow more than I expected.

“I feel God most through people. Talking with others, especially those outside my faith, helps me see goodness and understand what I believe on a deeper level. I am learning to reach out when life feels heavy and not carry every problem alone.

“I don’t have everything figured out, but I know I’m in the right place and that God guides my steps as I keep trying.” —Josh

Begay’s family lives about 30 minutes outside Chinle, Arizona. Across the Navajo Nation, approximately 14,000 homes lack access to electricity.

That changed in early March 2026 when her home received a solar power system through a collaboration between Heart of America, a national education nonprofit, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
