Roughly 2 months ago, Mark preached a lesson on Doors of Opportunity. It was a lesson meant to encourage everyone to not be afraid of or deny opportunities that have, or will present themselves because you never know how God can use you in that role that is presented to you.
Little did Mark know, the very lesson he spoke to encourage the faithful members of Roan's creek, were words he himself would be reflecting on.
Following that Sunday morning lesson, he had several missed phone calls from a dear friend and brother, Larry Waymire . Larry was letting Mark know of an opportunity. The role of Full time Involvement Minister at Broad Street Church of Christ.
As many of you know, Broad Street was the first job Mark had when he graduated from FHU, working as an Associate Minister with the focus on youth. We worked there for 7 years until the summer of 2002, when again, an opportunity came open. Another dear friend, Josh Ketchum was leaving to do mission work and asked if Mark would be interested in being the full-time Minister at Roan's Creek. That full time Pulpit preaching position, would be more than a job. We grew our family, made friends with some of the best people on the planet, and fell in love with a small building, but a HUGE church.
It was not an easy decision to make, but through a lot of prayers, tears, giving God our concerns, and fears of change, for not only us, but our sweet RC family, Mark accepted the position to go back to Broad Street and work full time in the role of Involvement Minister.
It's hard for a Minister to change jobs. Because when he changes a job, he will inevitably be leaving a church family that he has grown to know and love.
We are blessed beyond all of God's measure for the 23 years that we have worked with and for the RC congregation. We will not be strangers, with hopes to keep the relationship and involvement of Broad Street to extend to our sister congregations.
God is so good. He nudges us to step into roles, even when we weren't looking, and our prayers are for both congregations to grow spiritually, reach and love the lost, continue to grow in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
May God always bless the little church on the hill, and the new work Mark will be doing at Broad Street.
We love and will miss you all, so very much.
