Do you make promises or vows to God?
To say something is holy means to dedicate it, to give it as an offering to God. Dedicated means set apart for religious use.
This proverb points out the evil of making a vow rashly and then reconsidering it. God takes vows seriously and requires that they be carried out (Deuteronomy 23:21-23). We often have good intentions when making a vow because we want to show God that we are determined to please him. Jesus, however, says it is better not to make promises to God because he knows how difficult they are to keep (Matthew 5.33-37). If you still feel it is important to make a vow, make sure that you weigh the consequences of breaking that vow. (In Judges 11, Jephthah made a rash promise to sacrifice the first thing he saw on his return home. As it happened, he saw his daughter first.) It is better not to make promises than to make them and then later want to change them. It is better still to count the cost beforehand and then to fulfill them.

You've heard similar warnings: If you don't study, you'll fail the test; if you don't save, you won't have money when you need it, God wants us to anticipate future needs and prepare for them. We can't expect him to come to our rescue when we cause our own problems through lack of planning and action. He provides for us, but he also expects us to be responsible.

Those who fear the Lord are "untouched by evil" because of their healthy habits, their beneficial life-style, and sometimes through God's direct intervention. Nevertheless, the fear of the Lord does not always protect us from trouble in this life: Evil things still happen to people who love God. This verse is not a universal promise, but a general guideline It describes what would happen if this world were sinless, and what will happen in the new earth, when faithful believers will be under God's protection forever.

Loneliness is everywhere-many people feel cut off and alienated from others. Being in a crowd just makes people more in aware of their isolation. We all need friends who will stick close, listen, care, and offer help when it is needed in good times and bad. It is better to have one such friend than dozens of superficial acquaintances. Instead of wishing you could find a true friend, seek to become one. There are people who need your friendship. Ask God to reveal them to you, and then take on the challenge of being a true friend.

The verse in Proverbs 18:22 states that it is good to be married. Today's emphasis on individual freedom is misguided. Strong individuals are important, but so are strong marriages. God created marriage, for our enjoyment and he pronounced it good. This is one of many passages in the Bible that show marriage as a joyful and good creation of God (Genesis 2:21-25: Proverbs 5:15-19; John 2:1-11).

Are you going through Trials?
It takes intense heat to refine gold and silver. Similarly, it often takes the heat of trials for the Christian to be purified. Through trials, God shows us what is in us and clears out anything that gets in the way of complete trust in him. Peter says that trials come “so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ"
(1 Peter 1:7). So when tough times come your way, realize that God wants to use them to refine your faith and purify your heart.
