Trying to fix a civilization while rejecting Christ is not reform. It is interior decorating in a fire.

Our age loves borrowed morality. It wants dignity, justice, order, beauty, and peace, but it wants them cut loose from the Lord who defines them, commands them, and gives them life. That project cannot hold. When a people will not have Christ, they do not become neutral. They unravel.

Real reform begins where true life begins: with repentance, regeneration, and submission to the risen King. Jesus is not an accessory to social health. He is its only foundation.

If you want to understand Calvinism, start in Ephesians 2. Start with the bad news the Bible actually gives. We were dead in sin, children of wrath, following the course of this world, unable to rescue ourselves. Then let the thunder of those two words land: *But God*.

Calvinism is simply taking that seriously. God did not look down and find us reaching up. He made us alive together with Christ. He raised us. He seated us with Him. He saved us by grace through faith, and even that is not our own doing. The whole thing is gift. Which means the whole glory belongs to God.

Spy Wednesday: More Mercy Than Sin

Holy Week shows us betrayal, darkness, and the ugliness of sin. It shows us false hearts, cowardly disciples, hardened rulers, a bribed betrayal, and a world ready to trade the Holy One for silver. And if we are honest, it does not merely show us what others did. It shows us what sin is like in all of us.
But Holy Week also shows us something greater. It shows us that there is more mercy in Christ than sin in us. Our hope is not that our sin is small, excusable, or manageable. Our hope is that our Savior is great. Greater than our wandering. Greater than our guilt. Greater than our treachery, weakness, fear, and shame.

The cross was not God’s response to small problems. It was His answer to great evil. And the mercy of Christ is not thin, fragile, or quickly exhausted. It is deep enough for the foulest sinner who comes to Him in faith. There is no darkness in us that is stronger than the grace that is in Him.

So let Spy Wednesday humble you, but do not let it leave you in despair. Let it teach you to hate sin honestly, and then to run more quickly to the Christ whose mercy is greater still.
