FROM CHAOS TO ORDER

A preacher receives a note saying, “We interrupt this sermon to inform you that the 4th grade boys are now in complete control of their Sunday school class and are holding Miss Moseby hostage.” Surely, chaos has taken over the Sunday school class. Now, where else do you see chaos? How about your front lawn or backyard, your prayer life, or even the Middle East? What could the creation story in Genesis teach us about chaos and the way out of it? Join us as we discover a new way of looking at the creation story and how it can transform our understanding of creation, the church, and children.

3 LS from the Day of Pentecost

“You’re drunk!” “No, we’re not. It’s the Holy Spirit!” Strange? Perhaps. But no one in their right mind would be drinking at 9 a.m. The disciples were speaking in tongues—declaring God’s mighty deeds in different languages. Could this be a reversal of the Tower of Babel story? What does the story of the Day of Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit have to do with our lives today? Join us as we discover 3 Lessons (3 Ls) from the Day of Pentecost and how they relate to recent graduates as well as to all of us.

WHILE WE ARE WAITING

Fast food, Amazon same-day delivery, Google search, A.I.—we live in a fast-moving culture where waiting is often avoided at all costs. In a similar way, Jesus’ disciples once asked Him, “Is it now that You will restore the kingdom to Israel?” Jesus’ answer was not “No,” but something more difficult: “Wait.” Why? Because something greater and better was coming. What is it? Join us as we explore what we are waiting for—and what we are called to do in the meantime.

GOD IS NEAR US

Sometimes moms are overly protective, shrewd, funny, or highly critical. We appreciate and love them because we long to have someone near us who cares for us. Apostle Paul observed something similar when he visited the Athenians, who were surrounded by idols. He stepped into the Areopagus and delivered a passionate speech after noticing an altar dedicated “to an unknown god.” Who is this unknown God? How does Paul explain the gospel to Athenians who were both intellectual and, at times, hostile? Join us as we explore what Paul’s speech tells us about human nature and our relationship with God.

ACCEPT OR IGNORE?

Stephen was not so wise, was he? He broke the No. 1 rule of public speech: “Don’t insult your audience!” It didn’t work well for him, and he paid the ultimate price. But is it really Stephen’s problem—telling the truth, confronting evil, and calling for change? Or is it his audience’s problem? Do we also accept or ignore the challenges in front of us when the truth reveals itself and warns us? Join us as we discover the challenges before us and how to accept them courageously and overcome them.

Two men are dining at a nice restaurant, having steaks. His first paycheck paid for the meal with his pastor. It was his first time. He was spending his own money, but there was joy. How can sharing possessions be so joyful? We see a glimpse of this in the birth story of the church in Acts 2. What happened, and how did it come about? Join us as we discover how we can save lives and thrive in life.

ON THE WAY

Easter fever doesn’t last long. Attendance plummets, excitement disappears, and problems still remain. Cleopas and another disciple were the same. They were sad and disappointed when their excitement about Jesus ended with the crucifixion and the strange news of his resurrection. Then, a stranger joins them on the road to Emmaus. Who is he? How do they have burning hearts after he leaves them? What happened? Join us as we discover how an encounter with the risen Jesus can transform our lives.
