Today is the first day of the closure of the intersection of Willis and Whitaker roads. I (Rob) now live on a dead end section of Willis road. I have to drive by a "Road Closed" barrier at Tuttle Hill rd to reach my home. It is going to be a pain having to detour for the next 2 months to go anywhere North, West, or South, but I should get a two month benefit of no traffic (except neighbors) on Willis. Peace and quiet for 2 months, that will be nice!
Well...not so much.
I now have dozens of people (I would say about 1/3 of the previous west bound traffic) who either can't read, don't believe it, have to see for themselves, or completely missed the "Road Closed" sign who first zoom by my house going west and then about 2 minutes later, zoom even faster by my house going back east. So much for little traffic. I even checked Google Maps to see if people were being erroneously led down a dead end, but no, Google Maps has the road shown as closed.
What is even wierder, is that they come in bunches. Like one person sees the one in front of them ignore the sign, so they figure, "Ahh, they must know something I don't!" and so on until you have a string of 6 cars trying to turn around.
Oh, I have to mention that there are not many places to turn around, a Semi Truck with a full car hauler took about 30 minutes to back up far enough that he could get his rig turned around. I have a pull through drive, but I am too far from the intersection. Everyone is still trying to see if the road is open or closed, "are those blinking lights real?"
So it is amusing and I assume at some point the number of people ignoring the signage will lessen, but I am sure it will never, ever, fully stop.
I just had to share!
