Right after Paul (or his interlocutor) talks about obeying authorities and paying taxes, we hear Paul say that we are to owe no one ANYTHING but love.

We usually think of real love as unconditional--no strings attached--right? And we usually think of debt as a bad thing (especially in the Bible!). So what does it mean to owe each other love?

Let's talk about it this Sunday as we consider if love is the only debt we don't want out of.

How many of y'all wake up on Sunday morning and think, "I want to be uncomfortable. I want to be challenged. I want to hang out with someone I won't easily get along with"?

Not many takers?

How many of you want the church to be a country club or community group where everyone is the same and their comfort is prioritized?

Most people don't want churches like that, but too often that's what happens. That's because Christian discipleship isn't easy. Jesus is challenging you to expand your welcome and overcome the things that keep you from loving others well.

If you are ready for that challenge (or even just want to be... none of us are always enthusiastic about this) then we are ready to welcome you!

Take risks for the sake of love. This is the reason to let love make you uncomfortable. This is the reason to re-examine your beliefs. If your faith does not bear fruit like this, it isn't living and it isn't Christ-like.

We are so grateful for the opportunity we had to partner with Sheri and the Daytime Warming Center when we owned the old Girl Scout building on Manchester. The hope God has given us in Christ is so radical and so powerful, that we are inspired to love one another like family. That is a beautiful image, but it's also really hard! Luckily we don't do it alone and there is an abundance of grace to cover over our failures.
