Read 2 Corinthians 12:1-10 - Such Glorious Knowledge

What experiences from God do you find impossible to put into words? How have these experiences changed you?

Thank You, God, for Your beauty and the way it changes me. Please help me humbly rest in You.

Additional Insights - Paul doesn’t explicitly name what “thorn” (2 Corinthians 12:7) plagued him, but we know it caused distress, even though it didn’t prevent him from preaching and traveling. New Testament scholar Ben Witherington III has argued that an eye disease is a plausible candidate for what afflicted him. In Galatians 4:13-15, Paul describes the onset of an illness that the Galatians responded to with such kindness that, if they could, they “would have torn out [their] eyes and given them to [him]” (v. 15). Whatever his condition was, he experienced “Christ’s power” through his weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). By God’s grace, we can do the same.

Are you guys dying to hear how the chainsaw training at Cross Lutheran (Yorkville) went?!

There were 15 of us that took the required LCMS classroom training Friday night and then spent Saturday felling, bucking, limbing and dragging trees and limbs at the church as well as the homes of two congregation members.

A huge thank you to the LCC/LCMS senior chainsaw instructors Marty Johnson and Ed Boerman who led the training! We appreciate the opportunity and look forward to safely serving those in need after a disaster!

Heavenly Father,

We come to You heartbroken over the devastation in central Texas. At least 24 lives have been lost in the flooding and many are still missing. We lift up every family shattered by this tragedy, aching for answers, and holding onto hope. Be their comfort in this valley of shadows.

For those who are still missing, Lord, we pray with all our hearts. You know where they are. Guide rescuers to them. Bring hope where there is fear and light where there is darkness.

Strengthen the search and rescue teams who are working through exhaustion and trauma. Give them endurance, clarity, and protection. Comfort their hearts as they face so much pain and loss.

As the rain continues to fall and the risk of flooding remains, we ask for Your protection over every community in harm’s way.

Jesus, You wept at the tomb of Lazarus, and You weep with us now. Be near to the hurting. Show us how to love boldly, serve compassionately, and hold one another through the storm.

In Your holy name we pray,
Amen.

Doing things like distributing resources, feeding people, salvaging possessions, mucking out houses, providing transportation, cleaning up debris, assisting at emergency shelters, and most importantly listening to the people affected by devastation.
