Board Member Spotlight: Liz Dellinger ✨

Liz has been a dedicated member of The Salvation Army York County Advisory Board for nearly 20 years. What began as a simple favor after longtime community leader Lester Bentz encouraged her to get involved soon became a deeply meaningful commitment. Through the years, Liz has witnessed firsthand the impact The Salvation Army has on individuals and families throughout our community, providing not only assistance, but also compassion, dignity, hope and support during life's most difficult moments.

Driven by a passion for service and a belief in The Salvation Army's mission of helping others, Liz has served on the Governance and Nominating Committee, the Boots & Bags Committee, and has supported numerous fundraising and volunteer initiatives. Reflecting on her years of service, she is grateful for the relationships, experiences and opportunities to make a difference alongside an organization that remains committed to serving people and transforming lives. It has been both a privilege and a blessing to support The Salvation Army and its mission for the past two decades.

🐊 Gators, and leopards, and frogs—oh my! 🐆🐸🌿

The children of The Salvation Army Day Camp 2026 brought the rainforest to life right inside their Learning Center! 🌧️🌴

Throughout the summer, campers learned about the different layers of the rainforest and the incredible plants, animals and insects that call each one home. Then, they put their newfound knowledge—and plenty of creativity—to work building a rainforest of their very own!

Take a closer look and you never know what you might discover. You may spot a frog camouflaged beneath fallen leaves, a snake silently stalking a spider, or jaguars prowling the first floor.

From the forest floor to the canopy, every corner is filled with something to discover. We love seeing our campers turn what they’ve learned into something so wild, creative and fun! 🌿🦋🐍

💙 Heart Behind the Canteen: Serving with Purpose 💙

At The Salvation Army of York, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do—and their impact goes far beyond a meal.

For Marlon, serving on the Canteen feeding program means more than just providing food. It’s about walking alongside others, showing them they’re not alone, and reminding them that they are loved. “Serving is letting people see we are with them… feeling God working through us as we care for others,” he shared.

For Gorge, the power of the Canteen ministry comes through connection. “I love talking to people, listening to their stories, and being the ear they need,” he said. Each Tuesday brings a renewed sense of purpose and a warm reminder of what it means to give back.

Through every conversation, every meal, and every moment of compassion, our volunteers are sharing hope, faith, and love with our community.

💛 Volunteer Spotlight: Leslie 💛

“Hi, I’m Leslie, and I volunteer in the clothing room.”

What began as simply stepping in to help has grown into something deeply meaningful. “I really enjoy the interaction with people—being able to help clothe their families and make life a little easier,” Leslie shares.

At The Salvation Army of York, it’s about more than providing essential items—it’s about connection, compassion, and community. “It’s such a wonderful organization. Everyone loves the community, and everyone just wants to help.”

Board Member Spotlight: John A. Klinedinst✨

The Salvation Army means so much to me because I see God’s call reflected in its work. When I think of the scripture, “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat… I was a stranger and you invited me in” (Matthew 25:35), I’m reminded of how The Salvation Army truly lives this out every day.

As a board member, I’ve had the opportunity to see firsthand how The Salvation Army cares for individuals and families who are hungry, in need, or hurting—offering compassion, guidance, and practical support. Witnessing the impact of the “direct to those in need” programs and ministries here in York is why The Salvation Army is so close to my heart and why I continue to volunteer and serve in support of its mission.
