It’s time to dig out your finest red attire, it’s Pentecost! On Sunday we will celebrate the arrival of the Holy Spirit, traditionally observed fifty days after Easter. Those first disciples of Jesus were still grappling with his death, resurrection and ascension when a sudden roar of wind and flame transformed them into what would become the early Church.

Presbyterians have long been the target of jokes aimed at our lack of comfort with Spirit-filled expression, hence the term “Frozen Chosen,” but the reality is more complicated than that. While we are typically not as demonstrative as other denominations in our worship, we also have a great love and respect for the theology that proclaims our one God in three unique persons - Father, Son and yes Holy Spirit.

Pentecost is a culmination of the journey we began with Advent and continued through Easter proclaiming God among us, Jesus for us and now the Spirit within us. I hope to see you at 10 am Sunday in you best Sunday red!

Blessings and peace,

Pastor Danny

Hi everyone, I hope you are enjoying the final hours of our unusually cool Spring as it looks like the typical SC summer heat is closing in on us quickly. Speaking of heat, we will celebrate the fiery arrival of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost next week (remember to wear red).

But first, this Sunday, we have the matter of the bodily ascension of Jesus as told only by the writer of Luke’s Gospel. Only Luke spends time on physical details of the event and understanding that can help us make sense of this strange story in the 21st century.

Remember Spring Clean Up tomorrow morning from 9-noon! Come to the kitchen as we will divvy up tasks to clean and organize several areas around the kitchen and sanctuary. I hope to see you then and again on Sunday morning at 10 am.

Blessings and peace,

Pastor Danny

Hi everyone! While pre-orders are closed there should be plenty of BBQ chicken with all the fixin’s available tomorrow on a first come first serve basis. Pre-order pickup is from 11am - 12pm and plates will be served until 2pm or until we run out. A $15 plate comes with a BBQ chicken quarter, baked beans, hash brown casserole, slaw and dessert. We usually sell out so plan accordingly.

On Sunday prepare to continue celebrating the joy of Easter as we turn to Holy Humor to interpret how God made a fool out of the devil when Jesus was raised and death was defeated. Holy Humor Sunday has deep roots in several different Christian traditions going back to the 15th century. Read more about the history in the bulletin. Our scripture text is the absurd story of Thomas, ever faithful yet labelled a doubter as he insists on the same proof of the resurrected Christ that his companions received.

All are welcome at 10 am Sunday as we worship with a song in our hearts and a dance in our steps.

Blessings and peace,

Pastor Danny

On Good Friday the world went dark. On Saturday despair set in. On Sunday dawn brought new hope for a few that became the salvation for all. The tomb was empty and death had been defeated.

Easter Sunday will be busy at ACPC so I’m going to itemize things.

1. Be sure to bring flowers to adorn our cross out in the front circle.

2. Sunrise service begins at 7am (sunrise 7:08) in front of the church near the cemetery. We will look at the resurrection story for John’s Gospel.

3. Bring breakfast food to share as we enjoy table fellowship together between services in the fellowship hall around 8 am.

4. The regular sanctuary service is at 10 am and will include communion. The text for this service comes from the resurrection story according to Matthew.

Come spend the morning with us as we celebrate the special day that the Lord has made!

Blessings and peace,
Pastor Danny
