This Sunday🕯️"Many Road Out" led by Guest Speaker Val Brown Dennis
How Do We Flourish as an Individual? How do we Flourish Together? Community? Country? World? The reality of this time is that we are living in a time of struggle. In the words of Frederick Douglass, “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” And yet, sometimes, it all seems “too much”. How do we fully acknowledge the current struggles and the current reality – and then turn to hope, action, and flourishing? In our spiritual lives we often look for contentment, peace, connection, and wisdom. I believe that we must acknowledge the challenging sides of ourselves and humanity before we can flourish. What happens when we actively walk toward the struggle, our own and others? We can sometimes choose to struggle, acknowledge the past-present-future, build empathy and gain trust in new places. How does a conscious choice to struggle, perhaps a bit each day, serve as a way to grow in our spiritual lives, as an individual - and as a collective species on this planet?

Thank you for the time to be with you and your community. I have spent three decades in public education through instrumental music, school libraries, mentorship, and leadership. I arrive here from Glen Rock, Pennsylvania where I live with my husband, Jason and a new “York SPCA” German Shepherd rescue named, “Nina”. My days “beyond formal teaching” are primarily spent waking up with Essentrics on PBS, the local YMCA, writing as resistance and health work, Swedish death cleaning, and caregiving for my parents, Shirley and Ray, ages 89 and 97. My individual “flourishing” also includes visits with our two year old giggling mischievous grandson, social justice work (public and anonymous) in Southern York County and with Heidelberg UCC in York, random gardening, the rail trail, recent adventures in Iceland and Norway (with our Estonian exchange student daughter) and upcoming visit to Moldova and Italy for our Moldovan daughter’s wedding. The words bittersweet, boundaries, acceptance, and voice keep rising to the surface for me.
💜Journey with us in joy, possibility, and hope💜
