What comes to your mind when you think about including persons very different from you in your life? It can be difficult to be inclusive. We tend to prefer hanging out with people who share our experiences, backgrounds, and passions. Showing true concern to those of another ethnicity or religion is demanding. Right treatment of immigrants stirs strong emotions. Those with mental or physical disabilities are easy to ignore. But in Mark 7, Jesus gave us beautiful examples of compassion to all. Join us this week as we examine how Jesus broke down walls!

See you in this Sunday’s ExHour

What are some physical characteristics you share with your human family? How does being a member of God’s family affect our daily life? Jesus said and did things certain ways, and those reflected His relationship with His heavenly Father. Because Jesus calls believers to be marked by doing God’s will, we too need to reflect a “family resemblance.” This week we’ll discuss our human family and our spiritual family, and how our commitment to Christ draws us closer to Him.

Jesus calls believers to be marked by doing God’s will.

All believers are to be engaged in the life and ministry of the church.

There is no spiritual gift of pew sitting.

Every believer is supposed to be involved in the ministry of the church.

This doing, engagement, and involvement is what unites the body.

Forgives

What are some outrageous claims you heard someone make this week? Did that person have the authority to back up those claims? During His earthly ministry, Jesus said a lot of things that ruffled a lot of feathers. But He never backed down from them—including His claim that He could do the unthinkable: forgive sins. In this week’s study we’ll learn about and discuss Jesus’ authority and power to forgive and heal.

Who were your heroes when you were growing up? John Glenn, the first person to orbit the earth in 1962, was widely considered as a hero. Some even said he was one of the last American heroes. Join us this week as we dive into the Gospel of Mark, which emphasizes action, showing that Jesus really was the Messiah.

Reconciliation is easier said than done. Fear of confrontation, rejection, or pride, can cause us to pretend that nothing ever happened or the other person never existed, allowing a once healthy relationship to whither and die. In this week’s session, Jacob was reconciled with his brother Esau after stealing his blessing. Join us as we study Jacob’s humility and desire to be restored and God’s faithfulness in reconciling Jacob and Esau’s relationship.

It's been a while but we're back!!!! Join Us Sunday!!!

Some groups expect you to meet certain requirements to be a part of their organization. For example, the military sets age requirements for recruits, and lawyers must pass an exam to be admitted to the bar. But God doesn’t work that way. Join us this week as we discuss true grace: the grace of God that welcomes all people who respond to Christ in faith.

Session 9 — Restored

Many assume that leaders must never show personal vulnerability in the midst of a crisis. But Jesus showed vulnerability on the eve of His death in Gethsemane. He admitted that He was troubled and anxious in His soul. Similarly, David demonstrated grief during Absalom’s rebellion. David’s willingness to be in the thick of battle even at the risk of his own life attracted those in his day to follow him and to restore him to the position of king. The same is true today. Leaders in any arena who courageously show their own humanitybecome more trustworthy in the esteem of their followers. Join us this week as we talk about how God-fearing leaders build trust.

Tomorrow’s Class.

Session 8 — Deposed

Many of us are not good at waiting our turn. If we can slip in ahead of a person when merging onto the interstate, we will. If we can just be ahead of one other person at the entrance, we feel better about life. We might even pay for the privilege of going to the front of a line at an amusement park. This is selfish ambition. Our goals should be God-honoring! Join us this week as we read about how David’s son Absalom, through selfish ambition, began to undermine David in order to seek the throne for himself.
