My dear people of St. Ann’s Parish,

Since the merger of St. Ann’s Parish with St. John, the Baptist, Most Holy Trinity Parish has been officially announced (although we will not be formally a merged parish until July 1), thank you for all your support. I know this is not easy, and I have already been asked numerous questions. Some of your questions and concerns must be answered with, “I am not sure!” or “I don’t know!” At least for now, because I have never been involved in merging parishes. However, I assure you that we will make this process seamless. I invite you to share your questions and concerns with me because they help me form the pathway to merge two parishes into one. I appreciate you speaking with me because this is important, and I wish to get it done right or as right as I can for everyone in the newly formed parish.

As I asked last weekend, please join me praying for a successful and peaceful merger process. We will be a happy and vibrant parish with two strong church sites if we trust in God now and in the future.

Until next week, Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
Fr. Stephen P. Norton

My dear people of St. Ann’s Parish,

Happy Fathers’ Day to all our fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, stepfathers, and all who have been a father to another! We pray for each of you and ask God to send to the heart of all fathers the spirit of St. Joseph. St. Joseph was a good, humble, and obedient servant of God, and St. Joseph can help guide all fathers to continue to watch over their families, leading them to Heaven.

We also pray for excepted and new fathers that God will help you be a strong man of faith for your family.

Like myself, some of our fathers have gone home to God, and it makes no difference whether their passing was a short while ago or many years ago; they are still missed. I often think of my father and wish I could call him to ask for his advice about things going on in my life. I am sure my father (and mother) are still praying for their children and grandchildren. We often remember them with great love and affection as a family and pray for their eternal souls.

Today as we remember and honor all fathers, we pray for our fathers still with us here on earth and those who rest in the peace of God’s mercy.
Happy Fathers’ Day!

Until next week, Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

Dear Parish Family,

As some of you may have heard by now, Cardinal Dolan recently announced that the Parish of Saint John the Baptist-Most Holy Trinity will merge with the Parish of Saint Ann’s. As of July 1, 2023, a new parish will be created, the Parish of Saint John the Baptist-Most Holy Trinity-Saint Ann. The main reason for this merger is to strengthen and maintain the vitality of our parishes. In addition, the increasing shortage of priests has made it at best difficult, if not impossible, to provide pastors for each of the parishes in the Archdiocese of New York.

Both churches will remain open for Masses and Sacraments. Beginning in July, we will have one bulletin for the newly merged parish and it will be distributed at both churches. There will also be one parish council, one finance council, and one set of trustees, consisting of members of both originating parishes.

Some programs have already been merged; Religious Education and RCIA. Other programs will remain separate. For example, the senior groups from each parish will continue to meet separately at each respective church.

The merger will affect the use of Saint Ann’s rectory. All the assigned priests of the newly formed parish will live together at Saint John the Baptist rectory. The rectory will be renamed “a parish house” which will serve both communities. Although no priest will live in the rectory at Saint Ann’s, we will continue to have meetings and other gatherings there.

I know this decision will require adjustments from many of you, and I thank you in advance for your openness to them. If any parishioner would like to discuss this transition with me in person, please let me know. I am confident that, working together as one parish, and placing our trust in God, we will all be able to transition smoothly into the next chapter in the life of our parish family.

Peace and prayers,
Fr. Stephen P. Norton

My dear people of St. Ann’s Parish,

Today is the feast of Corpus Christi (The Body and Blood of Christ). We, as Catholics, celebrate the central aspect of our faith today. We believe that the bread and wine used at Mass become the Body and Blood of Jesus. It is not a representation but the actual presence of God’s only Son. When we receive Communion at Mass, we receive God. This truth should bring us so much happiness.

We can pray (adore) Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament at church. On Fridays, we have adoration from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. in the chapel. Everyone is welcome! We are all invited to spend whatever amount of time we can at the chapel in prayer before the real presence of Jesus. When we say we hope to get to Heaven one day, we mean that we desire to go to the place where we spend every moment of eternity in adoration before the living presence of Jesus. Why would we not want to begin here and now in our beautiful chapel before the living presence of Jesus?

We will have a special Holy Hour today at St. Ann’s (in the Church on College Place) from 3 until 4 pm. First, we will spend an hour in prayer for the parishes of St. Ann’s and St. John the Baptist. Then, before the Blessed Sacrament is placed back into the tabernacle at the end of Adoration, I will come out the church's front doors (College Place) and bless the parishes of St. Ann’s and St. John the Baptist. Obviously, I cannot go to every home with the Blessed Sacrament, but we should believe and trust in the power of Jesus to bless the parish communities of St. Ann’s and St. John the Baptist. Jesus is God, and so His power is great! Therefore, even from the front doors of the church, He can bless every home and person in both parishes.

Please consider joining us today (Sunday) for Holy Hour to pray for our parish family.

Until next week, Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

𝗨𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗧𝗢 𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡!

The Medical Aid in Dying Act (MAID) (A995A/S2445A) is currently under consideration in the NYS legislature.

New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie will allow MAID to be voted on this week if the Senate will vote on it too. Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins has not yet agreed to allow the bill to come up for a vote.

Your voice matters! PLEASE CALL AND EMAIL SENATE MAJORITY LEADER ANDREA STEWART-COUSINS, URGING HER TO STOP THE PASSAGE OF MAID.

* MAID dehumanizes and devalues the aged, diseased, and disabled.

* MAID normalizes su***de and decriminalizes assisted su***de.

* MAID allows for ‘mentally competent’ ‘terminally ill’ people, beginning at age 18, to request and consume deadly medication that will end their lives.

* Powerful evidence depicts the total number of su***des rising significantly where euthanasia is legal, especially impacting older women.

* Numerous professional associations and organizations oppose ASSISTED SU***DE, including, American Medical Association, World Medical Association, National Council on Disability and American Association of People with Disabilities.

Please call and email Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. Let her know you are a New Yorker and you oppose the passage of the Medical Aid In Dying Act (MAID).

As Catholic men, we strive to make Jesus Christ present in our lives. Called together, we seek God’s grace to strengthen one another and grow in commitment to our Catholic faith. Equipped as witnesses of the Gospel, we serve our families and the Church.

In 2002 a group of five men saw a void in enabling men to come together to share the Gospel with each other outside of Sunday Mass. To that end, they started a Gospel Reflection Group in Chester, PA that has grown into over 50 parishes and locations and now brings over 600 men together each week! These men share the Gospel, but also how to become better fathers, husbands, sons, and good Catholic men.

In 2008 priests, bishops, and the Archbishop of Philadelphia (along with these men) started what is now known as “Man Up Philly” the Men’s Spirituality Conference! It’s only one day a year, starting with inspirational speakers, athletes like Mike Piazza, and other notable Catholics who are constantly working to bring our Lord into their everyday lives not just in the Church, but in their workplaces and most importantly, at home.

This event focuses on supporting and encouraging men to be better sons, fathers, and husbands by living out their faith and leading their families by example. It’s a day filled with inspirational speakers who seek the Lord’s will in their everyday lives.
