Part 2: Living What We Believe
Theme Verse
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” — John 8:36
Last month we gathered around a simple object—a mirror.
Not to examine our appearance…
But to examine our hearts.
We asked the Lord one question:
“Who do You say I am?”
Many of you wrote down what you felt God whispering to your heart.
Some of you placed those cards on your mirror.
Some tucked them into your Bible.
Some carried them in your purse.
Tonight I don’t want to ask…
“What did God say?”
I want to ask something deeper…
Did you begin to believe Him?
Because knowing the truth and living the truth are two different things.
Jesus didn’t die simply so we could know we were free.
He died so we could live free.
Tonight is about taking the next step.
1. What is one thing God has been teaching you lately?
2. Since our last gathering, has there been a moment when you caught yourself believing God’s truth instead of an old lie?
Hold up your mirror.
Say:
Do you notice something?
This mirror hasn’t changed.
But hopefully…
We have.
Last month we asked,
“Who does God say I am?”
Tonight we’re asking…
“Am I living like I believe Him?”
Because every single day we choose which voice we will believe.
God’s voice…
The world’s voice…
The enemy’s voice…
Or even our own.
James 1:22–25
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
James calls God’s Word a mirror.
Not because it shows us wrinkles…
But because it reflects our true identity.
The problem isn’t looking into God’s mirror.
The problem is forgetting what we’ve seen once we walk away.
Mirror One
The World’s Mirror
The world says:
Be prettier.
Be younger.
Be thinner.
Be richer.
Be more successful.
Compare yourself.
Perform.
Earn approval.
You’ll never reach the finish line because the world keeps moving it.
Mirror Two
The Enemy’s Mirror
The enemy never introduces anything new.
He simply repeats the past.
Remember your failures.
Remember your divorce.
Remember your mistakes.
Remember your addiction.
Remember what they called you.
Remember your regrets.
His favorite word is…
Remember.
But God’s favorite words are…
You are Mine.
Mirror Three
God’s Mirror
God’s mirror says:
You are chosen.
You are loved.
You are forgiven.
You are redeemed.
You are accepted.
You are equipped.
You are free.
Not because you’ve earned it…
But because Jesus paid for it.
Which mirror have you been looking into lately?
Has anyone experienced a moment recently when they chose God’s truth instead of an old lie?
White ribbon
“What does white remind you of?”
This ribbon reminds me of the grave clothes Lazarus wore.
When Jesus called Lazarus from the tomb…
He didn’t leave him wrapped in death.
Jesus said:
“Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”
(John 11:44)
Sometimes…
We’re alive in Christ…
But we’re still wearing old labels.
“I’m not enough.”
“I’m too broken.”
“I’m too old.”
“I’ll never change.”
“I’m unforgivable.”
Those are grave clothes.
Jesus never intended for us to keep wearing what He already removed.
Hold your ribbon for just a moment.
Quietly ask the Lord…
“What grave clothes am I still wearing?”
Give a minute of silence.
Then say:
Tie this ribbon around your Bible…
Your journal…
Your purse…
Or your wrist.
Not because the ribbon has power.
But because it reminds us of the freedom Jesus has already given us.
Every time you see it…
Remember…
You don’t have to wear yesterday anymore.
Reflection Card
On one side write:
The lie I’m leaving behind…
On the other side write:
The truth God wants me to believe…
Encourage them to use Scripture whenever possible.
Declaration
Hold up your ribbon
Say together slowly:
I am chosen.
I am loved.
I am forgiven.
I am free.
I will no longer wear what Jesus has already removed.
That’s who you are.
Not because you feel it.
Not because someone else says it.
Because God says it.
Mirror Moment Challenge
This week…
Every morning…
Stand in front of your mirror.
Look yourself in the eyes.
Read John 8:36.
36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
Then say:
“I am chosen.”
“I am loved.”
“I am forgiven.”
“I am free.”
Then pray:
“Lord, help me live today like someone You have already set free.”
It only takes two minutes.
But it will change the way you begin every day.
Father,
Thank You that freedom is not something we strive to earn—it is a gift You have already given us through Jesus Christ.
Help us stop agreeing with the lies of the enemy and begin agreeing with Your Word.
Teach us to walk each day as women who know they are chosen, loved, forgiven, and free.
When we look into the mirror, remind us that our identity is not found in our past, our mistakes, or the opinions of others, but in Christ alone.
May this white ribbon remind us that the grave clothes are gone, the chains are broken, and we belong to You.
Help us leave here encouraged, confident, compassionate, and ready to shine Your light wherever we go.
We love You, we trust You, and we thank You for the freedom we have in Jesus.
In His mighty name we pray,
