Yellow Springs Community Foundation and Youth Action Board - the project begins today!

Community Kitchen Project

Yellow Springs Community Foundation and the Youth Action Board: Response to Food Security
Our community has a surprising number of individuals, representing all ages who are food insecure. The YSCF Youth Action Board (YAB), made up of students ages 14-18 identified food insecurity and access to nutritious food as the top concern for our community youth for 2024.
The need for a community soup kitchen had been discussed, requested and researched. The First Presbyterian
Church of Yellow Springs kitchen was selected due to its location, the once state-of-the-art equipment and the Foundation’s and Presbyterian’s shared mission to support our community.
The Foundation committed to providing funds up to a maximum of $20,000 with a directed grant of $7,750 from funds
raised by the Youth Action Board in 2024. These funds were specifically allocated for the restoration and improvement of the current kitchen facilities.
We of the church emptied out all the cupboards and storage areas in preparation…plates/cups/bowls/pots etc. - a real workout!

(Ruth Bent, Betty, Mabel and friends would be ecstatic to know about this!) as is the whole church community.
