GLEN FOREST NATURAL BURIAL CEMETERY
Call 937-477-0597 for details. Enter 4512 US Rt. 68 N., Yellow Springs, Ohio in Google Earth for an overhead view of Natural Burial Grounds. As of January 01, 2014, Glen Forest Cemetery has been awarded the title of “Approved Provider of Natural Burial Ground” by the Internationally recognized Green Burial Council. Please visit their website, www.greenburilcouncil.org to review the requirements for this certification. Green burial is a way of caring for the dead with minimal environmental impact that furthers legitimate ecological aims such as the conservation of natural resources, reduction of carbon emissions, protection of worker health, and the restoration and/or preservation of habitat. Natural Burial calls for cemetery adherence to a number of protocols to ensure that burials never degrade an ecosystem and, where possible, facilitate ecological restoration. It requires that surveys (biological, geological, hydrological) be done to determine where burial should and should not take place on a piece of land, and at what density. MEMORIAL SCATTERING GARDEN
The Memorial Scattering Garden is located in the center of the Natural Burial Grounds section of Glen Forest Cemetery. Cremains will be scattered under a covering of natural mulch. Scattering may be done by a loved one or a member of the Glen Forest Cemetery staff, if requested. Due to the natural design of the Scattering Garden, cremains will be intermingled in no set location within the Garden. A single name and 2 (two) specific dates will be engraved into a granite monument in the garden to provide a permanent memorization of the scattering. In addition, the record of the scattering will be kept in the same manner of all interments within Glen Forest Cemetery. Monuments will accommodate a maximum of 30 (thirty) names and dates and additional monuments will be added as the need arises. FOR MORE INFORMATION, INCLUDING RULES AND REGULATIONS
