Wrong theological beliefs in the modern church world:
1. Replacement Theology
Claim: The Church has replaced Israel in God’s plan.
Scriptural Refutation:
• Romans 11:1-2 (NKJV):
“I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not! For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew.”
• Romans 11:25-26:
“Blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved…”
Note: Paul explicitly teaches that Israel still has a future in God’s redemptive plan, separate from the Church.
⸻
2. Dominionist Theology
Claim: Christians are to take over societal structures to usher in the Kingdom.
Scriptural Refutation:
• John 18:36:
“Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight… but now My kingdom is not from here.’”
• 2 Thessalonians 2:7-8:
“For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.”
Note: The Church’s role is not to conquer culture politically, but to preach the gospel and await Christ’s return.
⸻
3. Prosperity Theology
Claim: Faith and giving guarantee material wealth and health.
Scriptural Refutation:
• 1 Timothy 6:5-10:
“…men of corrupt minds… suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself… For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil…”
• Matthew 6:19-20:
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth… but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…”
Note: True prosperity is spiritual, not material. The gospel is not a get-rich formula.
⸻
4. Christian Nationalism
Claim: National identity and politics are fused with Christianity, often distorting the gospel.
Scriptural Refutation:
• Philippians 3:20:
“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
• 2 Timothy 2:4:
“No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life…”
Note: While Christians can be patriotic, our ultimate allegiance is to Christ and His Kingdom.
⸻
5. Cessation Theology
Claim: Spiritual gifts ceased after the apostolic era.
Scriptural Refutation:
• 1 Corinthians 12:7-11:
“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all… distributing to each one individually as He wills.”
• 1 Corinthians 14:1:
“Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.”
• Acts 2:17-18:
“‘And it shall come to pass in the last days,’ says God, ‘That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh…’”
Note: There is no scriptural indication that spiritual gifts would cease before Christ’s return.
⸻
6. Amillennialism
Claim: The millennium is symbolic and not a literal future reign.
Scriptural Refutation:
• Revelation 20:1-6 (emphatically repeated “thousand years”):
“And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.”
• Isaiah 11:6-9; 65:17-25:
Descriptions of peace and long life that are not present today—pointing to a future literal kingdom.
Note: Scripture presents the millennium as a literal, earthly reign of Christ following His return.
⸻
Biblical Basis for the Pre-Tribulation Rapture:
• 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17:
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven… and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together… to meet the Lord in the air.”
• Revelation 3:10:
“Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world…”
• 1 Thessalonians 5:9:
“For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
