Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

As we honor this important day, we reflect on the role food plays in helping people build healthy, stable, and thriving lives. Access to nutritious food supports learning, health, opportunity, and stronger communities.

At Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC, we are committed to working alongside our partners to help ensure families across our 18-county region have access to the food they need today while building a stronger tomorrow.
