The Yancey United Methodist Church (UMC) was founded at the Annual Methodist Conference of 1921, held in San Antonio, TX by the combining of two congregations; the Yancey Ebenezer Church (German Speaking, founded in the Annual Conference year 1903-04) and the Yancy Church (previously known as Salem Church, Wilson
Chapel and Tehuacana Church, founded in 1875; but held services in homes as early as 1872.) Construction began on the current church building on December 25, 1924 and was completed in May 1925, The church bell was purchased for $25 from the Nazarene Church of Hondo. The church building was wired for electricity in 1938. Our sanctuary was renovated from 2015 to 2017 and includes the addition of stained glass windows. We continue to serve God and our community and pray that the Lord will strengthen our growth spiritually and numerically. Here at Yancey UMC, we are very thankful for our Christian heritage and for those who have served God before us. They endured hardships, lived and labored in faith, devotion and determination so we might continue their legacy serving Father, Son and Holy Spirit. May we continue to reflect God's Glory to others and be a beacon of light to our community, bringing other to Christ so that they might receive forgiveness and eternal life. We invite you to come, visit or join us for worship, prayer and service to our Lord. Our correspondence address is P.O. Box 157, Yancey, TX 78886
