Greetings Friends in Christ!
What if our everyday lives are simply an opportunity for the kingdom of God to intersect our world? After Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit, everything had changed for Peter and John. Their lives went from the daily living of religion to the spontaneous excitement of God‘s power moving in them and through them. As we study their response to the lame beggar at the gate beautiful we will see not only what they did, but what we are challenged to do each and every day with the life of God now deposited in us.

Pentecost is the day when we recognize another key part of the story of Jesus, the sending of the Holy Spirit. There’s much we could talk about around Pentecost, and no shortage of controversy among modern churches with regard to what it means. I won’t pretend to solve those controversies, instead, we’re going to ask the question of what Peter was trying to say in his sermon. What was the message that people from various places heard in their own languages?

Peter's first act of leadership after Jesus departs is to choose a replacement for Judas Iscariot. What is fascinating about choosing Matthais as the new 12th disciple is that we get a clear insight into the decision making patterns of Peter and the others. They flip a coin, the use the Bible in ways that seem a little odd to us. And all this will reveal a core truth, they are living the story they are telling, practicing the music they are playing.

Greetings Friends in Christ!
We’re jumping back to Holy Week to talk about yet another time when Peter is bold enough to state his confusion. The gospel of John does not include the Last Supper, instead, it includes this event where Jesus washes his disciples’ feet. Why? John wants to be sure that his readers understand baptism and its relationship to the kingdom. Why should we care? Peter comes to understand that life in Jesus’ kingdom involves getting his feet dirty, but that the dirt does not corrupt him. This is the mode of being an ambassador: washed to be in the household, getting dirty in the world, and washing one another in service.
