May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

Father José de Jesús (Chuy) Ramírez, a senior priest of the Yakima Diocese in residence at Our Lady of the Desert Parish in Mattawa, died at about 2:10 p.m. today after several weeks in hospice care at the rectory following a diagnosis of cancer. He was 69. Bishop Joseph Tyson is visiting the parish this evening and has expressed his gratitude for the love and care shown to Fr. Chuy by the pastor, Father Alex Trejo, Fr. Chuy's sister Martha, who has been assisting with his care, and many other parish volunteers as well as the nurses from Central Washington Home Health and Hospice. Funeral arrangements are pending. Fr. Ramírez was ordained to the priesthood on August 29, 1986 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview.
